rock, paper scissors

Does this game follow a rock paper scissors strategy? For instance, to fight lot's of battleships, its better to use friggate type fighters? In battle, its better to use your capital to target the larger ships...

While a little of that mechanic exists, there are many strategies, and many approaches to beating any given strategy. The closest this game gets to rock/paper/scissors is that flak frigates are really good at taking out strike craft, and most other units can't.

In general, Sins is designed in a way that dilutes a lot of rock/paper/scissors. Some ships are better at some things than others, but all are viable. As a classic example, if a capital ship is a "tank", there's no "guy with a rifle" unit which will be completely ineffective against it.

The only real exception to this the game has is flak frigates vs fighters and bombers, because they can't be hit by normal weapons and require a specialized frigate to hit them.
