1UP REVIEW SCORE CHANGED?? 8.5 to 8.0

It was 8.5 but now its 8.0!!!

And the Avg score just fall tons!!

What's just going on at 1UP???

I don't much care for 1up after their Neverwinter Nights 2 review fiasco, where they picked a reviewer who openly disliked the D&D rule set and bashed the game because of it. They then pulled his review and replaced it with one that wasn't any more credible.

Just to show how "reliable" they are...

You may be looking at the average score. The original score given by the reviewer, Sean Molloy, appears to be the same 8.5 as it was this morning.

Huh?? the avg score was 7.7 and review score was 8.0.
I even double checked. But now when I go and check again, it came back to 8.5...
Really weird...I swear that all the score went down. I even checked the review and it had the same exact review article.

Irrelevant. Unless you are considering buying the game, reviews and scores are pointless, from the player persepctive at any rate. The only review score that should matter to an individual gamer is their own. I don't need some anonymous critic to tell me my opinions.

Now if you are using reviews to consider the prospects of a game, take the score and average them across several reviews, and be sure to read the reviews for elements that draw praise or criticism from across the board. THEN make your decision as to whether or not you consider a game worth your money to try.

Individual scores from one site mean about as much as the opinion of one single solitary movie critic (which is to say, zilch).

(sigh) The review score never changed (only the combined score for user reviews & the main review), and the reason it's at the top of the PC list on Gamespot is because of user views.

All of this has been.....Very amusing.

The user rating on 1up is 7.4, that's whats causing avg score to be a 7.9.

The average score is from one person who hasnt even played the game yet. Its at the bottom in the reviews.

Yeah, basically there's a bunch of users who are tanking the user rating for the game there. The reviewer rating hasn't changed.

We're concerned because we like this game, and some of us have been trying (and failing, it would appear :D ) to help IC "advertise". Word of mouth advertising is a great thing, but it requires a fanbase that likes the game they've released so much they want it to do well.

And we do.

The same dirty tactic is used on Gamespot : some nasty users post very unfair, very low scores (and sometimes, insulting pseudo-reviews) just to "tank" a game they hate (for very childish motives).

When I see that happening, I post a 10 on 10 score to compensate.

Patiently reading the intelligent user-reviews, on Gamespot, is more instructive.

Patiently reading all the official reviews posted through Gamerankings.com, also, can be very informative : I start with the worst scores, and I read my way up to the best ones.
