LazySumo's Quest Adjustment

Shut up you stupid AI's!

OK, so reading through this thread here: WWW Link and I find myself in complete agreement, the diplomacy can kill you.

So here's my answer, I've created a new mod that tones down and adjusted the parameters for quests as follows:

Quests failed lose between 1-3 points depending on some parameters.
Quests completed still award the same points as before.
Quests now only get awarded every 8 minutes as opposed to every 3 minutes before.

So the net result is that you can now almost (but not quite!) ignore the quests without having swarms of pissed off raiders at your doorsteps. The quests won't stack up so fast and if you choose to complete them it's still the same goodness as before.

Here is the link for the mod: LazySumo's Quest Adjustment
The checksum is:1679165

Put it into your mod folder and enable via the ingame menu. I am just now setting up a game to test in multiplayer, I'm assuming that both machines need the mod enabled. Also, I don't believe it will work with games saved before the mod was enabled. The only time I tried it, the game crashed to desktop.

So not sure if anyone is playing with this or not. A friend and I put 4 hours tonight into a large game and both of us where using this. Turns out that he couldn't connect to my game without the mod installed and enabled so once we set that up the gameplay went fine.

We were able to essentially ignore the quests we didn't want to do or couldn't and not take major penalties from it. Plus the quests didn't come quite so fast.

I'm still hoping IC enables an acceptance checkbox for the missions, that alone would make them SO much more betterer. But until then, this seems to do the job.

Nice mod! true that the original penalties for not doing missions is too steep and the timelimit is really short. Moving say a fleet can take all that time easily. I'll give it a try next time ;).

I installed the mod but my game keeps on freezing when I click to enable it. :(

Any suggestions Sumo?

Cheers mate.

When you enable any mod the game has to reload from scratch basically. Sometimes this may take a while. Is that what you're experiencing, or is it a crash to desktop?

It does not crash to the desktop. When I click enable the screen freezes and the music stops. The first time, ctrl + alt + del did not work. So I did a cold boot. Second time ctrl+alt+del did work and it said the program was not responding.

This being said, I could have waited longer to see if anything happened. The first time it happened I only waited one minute before I started trying to exit the program, the second time I waited less time. I'll try again tonight and see if the game loads the mod while I make dinner.

I'll let you know what happens. Thanks for getting back to me.

No problem BK, the mod load should take about as long as loading the game the first time did, maybe a little longer.

Bugger, it didn't work out for me. :(

I left it for about 15 minutes and no change.

Interestingly I can still move my mouse on that frozen screen but nothing else works.

If you have any suggestions, I'll gladly try them out but if you're stumped like me, no biggie. :)

Hmm, is it possible to change the mod path? I wouldn't know how to do it.

Cheers

BK

I don't know if it's right to ask, but which files are the modded ones ?

I would like to give this a chance and get out of locked teams mode, but i would also like to have it work with my 5000 supply fleets and I don't know what files are changed in your mod, so that I can replace them in the 5000 supply mod.

EDIT: Duh, found them. Pretty obvious too. I guess I made an a$$ of myself there :-)

No worries Stog, they're easy enough to find, just sort by date edited.

I'm really hoping the ICO team is working on some sort of manifest file to go with the mods that tells what files were and were not modded. As it is if you mod 1 texture file your mod has to include ALL of them in order to work and that's simply no good.

LazySumo:

I love this mod, and I am rather fond of your "Minimal" mod as well. While I agree that the reputation loss needs to be drastically reduced, I think that the discrepancy between how much you can earn and how much you stand to lose is a bit too high in your mod. Maybe the potential loss should be between 5-10? Just my two cents.

Thanks for the great work.

Easy enough to do if you want to JD, just edit the files that I changed. I really like the fact that I don't have to pay ANY attention to the quests if I don't want to.

(PS, LOVE the avatar!)
