Deputy Abuses Man In Wheelchair

I'm sad to say that this incident happened in my own home county. The deputy demanded that this man, who is paralyzed from the chest down and was arrested for a traffic warrant, stand up to be searched. After he insisted that he was paralyzed and unable to stand...well you can see for yourself how the deputy handled it.

The deputy is now facing felony charges for abusing a disabled person, and rightly so.

Yeah that's pretty much how I felt about it too. I hope that deputy gets some serious time over that.

If the deputy would treat someone like that in front of witnesses and a camera, I can only image what they might do in a back alley. This is 2008, right?

That's one hell of a breach of the public trust. Unbelievable!

Its hard to imagine how depraved and dehumanized a person would have to be to dump a disabled person out of a wheelchair and onto the floor.

Yep. The Sheriff issued a public apology during a new conference on the matter and stated that he didn't feel anything short of firing the deputy would be acceptable. After that they decided to go ahead and prosecute the deputy and they also suspended the supervisors and other deputies who were present at the time.

And of course the man is going to be filing a suit against the department. While I am against lawsuits in general I think he's justified here.

Yep, and they have been suspended pending investigation. I suspect the deputy will not be the only one getting fired by the time the dust settles.

Yep. This is someone who is sworn to protect the public. And this guy was arrest for a traffic violation. Hardly a major criminal here.
