Something to play while waiting

Hiya, been lurking for a few months and preordered the game a few weeks ago (from gamestop, free shipping and the bonus windows skin pack thingy). While GalCiv sounds almost exactly like what I want I've been itching for a space conquest type game for a while so the final month was going to kill me, so I pulled out some old space conquest games (MOO2, IG2) but I wanted something new.

Well, I stumbled across a game I had heard of, but never bothered looking into: Starships Unlimited: Divided Galaxies. It's a perfect compliment to GalCiv, while GalCiv is all about empires, SUDG is all about starships and starship battles.

It's definately behind the times in graphics and sound but I played it most of the day yesterday and it was a blast. There's a demo online. They market is as a 4X game but it's really about starship configurations and combat, there is diplomacy and colonization and lot's of exploring but the focus of the game is definately not those (which is why it's a great compliment to GC).

It should tide me over until the end of march. :)

I think I'm going to pick up Freelancer on Wed. It's not in competition with GalCiv, but it's a space sim -- pretty cool looking game.

KiloOhm, you probably DL version 2.3 of this game, they are now commercial. You, as I, were looking for an alternative whilst waiting for (in first instance) MOO3 release and now of course much more the final version of Galciv. Anyway, all three games have a completely different approach, so are not comparable in my point of view. If you buy Drengin, you also get Stellar Frontier, my first impression is this one is something like Freelancer. Anyway, good marketing approach, this Drengin.net, several nice games for the price of one. LOL

Freelancer looked like a nice idea, but initial reviews are mixed so I'm going to wait a bit on that one. I loved Privateer! :)

Freya - DO you have a link to that? On the official site, I could only find updates that said 1.2, 1.3 (which I assume are for Starships Unlimited (original) since out of the box mine says "2.0". It's a nice game, the only thing that seems lacking is the interface is a little hard to get used to but after a few hours of play I think I've figured most of it out.

WHO wants to play Freelancer anyway, just Shoot 'm up, nothing more. Don't believe me? DL the demo, and you'll see. Nothing for real TB players.
