Tax setting strange behaviour

Hi,
what was that? For testing I've raised my tax slider and the income was getting more and more (ok so far...) but when I stepped from 67% to 68% my tax income dropped from 16bc to 3bc. Whats going on there?
Thanx

The companies and people in your empire start to give lower figures to ur IRS so that they don't have to pay that much tax. It's in other words fraud.

Some millionairs even go completely undercover :P

Would you be willing to give 67% of your income to the gouvernment?

In short it's not a bug or even strange behaviour. It is a thing the devs put in.

There are really some strange behaviours of the tax system, keeping the same "government expenditure" and "government income" levels, you will notice that you lose less (earn more) money when you increase the "military expenditure" increasing "research" always lead to worsen the situation...

Also sometimes, when you click just once on one on the sliders, the percentages do not move at all but your income changes ...

In fact most of the time, from mid-game and later, I make several tries of repartition of expenditures, and it can make the difference between losing and earning money...

It has to do with rounding off things. The % shown on the sliders are rounded off so when you click a slider and the number doesn't change on screen in fact it does change.

On top of that if you change the sliders the number of 'icons' produced on some planets may change influencing your total balance for example;
if you have a planet that produces 10 icons and you have it set at 19%Military 22%social and 60% research you will effectively see:

1 icon military (1.9 rounded down)
2 icons social (2.2 rounded down)
6 icons research (6.0 rounded down)

this makes a total of 9 icons for a cost of 9BC

setting your military and social spending each to 20% will result in 2,2,6 icons eacy for a total of 10 icons costing you 10BC

so if you adjust sliders and start to 'lose' money it effectively means that your planets are not producing very effectively. Keep an eye on your expense numbers when changing the list and you should see what happens.

Also good to note: When increasing taxes the morale is impacted, so not only your income but ALSO your expenses are influenced. Keep a good eye on this expense list.

Hope this helps,
Biggy.

It isn't just rounding: your factories/research labs/whatever allow you to spend MORE money on production and research, as well as providing a (very small) amount of 'bonus' points. In effect, the bonus points at +100% make your spending slightly (17-20%) more efficient while allowing you to spend twice as much. Not what you're used to, I'm certain.

Thx Biggy Boy, this sure help !

I start to understand the game mechanics ! even if I am not sure I want to ... it could lead me to make some advanced calculations of what i need when and where and how to extract the vey best of my civ, but I have much more fun not calculating anything, just producing what I need, earning money and keeping the morale at 70%. Yet I manage to rule the universe (ok only one galaxy in fact)...
