Screen locks

Currently I have a situation, where the screen is locked. I'm on the starmap with two ships, which both have destinations outside the screen. Trying to move the screen results in a screen that jitters, but won't move.

Found this in debug.err:
Debug Message: DEBUG: USS Mockingbird is still targeting this dead ship.
Debug Message: Surface Lost. Now restoring.
Debug Message: Trying to restore back surface.
Debug Message: DirectDraw Error: WRONG MODE
Debug Message: Lock: Unable to restore surface.

The last four messages happen when you alt-tab away, and I don't know that the scout targeting the dead ship would cause a lock-up...was the game actually frozen, or could you just not get another turn?

In my current game, what happens is the following:

1) The Engine starts flickering between ships with left-over movement. This I fix by hitting "Find" until it stops.
2) Now the screen is locked. This I can fix by switching to Economics or Government or Research. If it doesn't work the first time, take a stroll amongst your planets..

From debug.err:
ASSERT ERROR in file g:\projects\galciv\source\starship.cpp at line 1958.
Debug Message: Surface Lost. Now restoring.
Debug Message: Trying to restore back surface.
Debug Message: DirectDraw Error: WRONG MODE
Debug Message: Lock: Unable to restore surface.

In response to CariElf: The Galaxy View froze, so I couldn't pan from side to side or up and down. I am still able to select other screens. Haven't tried taking a new turn..

I'll keep the ALT-Tab errors in mind, and simply forget about them - so I don't clutter this forum with them when I post from my debug.err

Umm...that could be the bug that I fixed where it was getting stuck on a selected ship and not letting you scroll except to follow the ship.

I often get the same ship flickering problem. As mentioned, just clicking on the planet display and clicking back usually fixes this.
