Comments on new build

I have several comments on the 3b build. I a new to the alpha this time around so forgive me if I repeat things others have said.

I used to play the OS/2 version of the game the alot. I found it easy to play and understand. With this new version it seem much more complicated. There is so much information to look at. I suspect that when there is help or a manual that much of it will become clearer. I have managed to make ships move and more or less figured out how make things work.

It is very strange compaired to the OS/2 game to have Earth as a planet to work with.

I have had several attempts at games where after a while the game just quit on its own and took me back to place where I launched it from.

I also noticed the very first time I started I could allocate some bonus points(not sure if that is the right term) but on susequent lanuches of a new game they stayed where they set for the first game.

The strange terminations of GalCiv on its own are mostly trap 5's. You need SmartException (get it from Cari here) to
get any useful data for reporting the problems.

In what way is it more complex?

Here is a screenshot of GalCiv on OS/2:

There are actually more buttons on that version than there are in this version. Though there are a bunch of unused buttons in sub windows that will be consolidated. But overall complexity is currently a lot less.

We will be working on a basic manual for the BETA.

Brad,

I forgot how unimpressive the graphics were on the OS/2 version. Thanks for the reminder.

John Sherrill, did you check to see if your Prefs.ini file was read only?

The Prefs.ini was not read only. I changed it. Thanks. Some mentioned you (Cari) had a trap tool that could identify what might be causing the program to just go away.

Frogboy, I think most of my percepitions of complications are because ship movement is so different. I am still getting used to it.

Yea, hopefully with the latest builds it's a little bit easier. At least keyboard movement will always work when it's done. REmember in the OS/2 version you always had to usethe mouse to get focus back on the map window to move ships.
