Postcards

I feel like a
gypsy
lonely for
the road
I want to be
in warm places
sun drenched
watching old
Mexican women
roll tortillas
and mash pintos
with lard and red
sauce

I want to walk
down sandy
beaches
with the local’s
brand of mescal
be the gringo
always in the
bar
telling fish
stories
though I hate
to fish

I want to be
the place
where comfort
comes with a beer
and moving
slowly
sunsets
with a breeze
salted with
mariachi’s
occasional norte
surfers

I want success
to be the number
of shoulders
soothed by the
stopping of
time
prestige
according to
a measure of
humanity
and a little
happiness
refreshingly
mounted in a
postcard
torn in the
corner
