unhappy linuxian

Hi

one year ago, I was under windows and I bought GalCiv for download through SD central. I liked it a lot.

In the meanwhile I've switched to linux (no dual-boot). Now I'd like to use my Galciv account to play under linux through wineX.

The problem is that SD central doesn't work at all under linux (it's based on internet explorer).

Hence I'm in the absurd situation where I'll be forced to look for an illegal copy on a P2P network, whereas I _have_ paid for this game, i have bought it and I have an account.

All I need is an ISO image but it looks like you don't provide this service to your subscribers.

Why don't you simply open a FTP server, on which your subscribers would automatically get an account (with, say, the serial number as password), which would allow us to download ISO images ?

have you tried to use CrossoverOffice, that allowes you to install an IE ( i think its 6.0) and use it (SDC) then.

Ihave to wait with the GalCiv installation (Linux does not know my graphic card, a ATI 9800 PRO, driver-wise) and thereby GC won't work

nope .... always the same error, at the end of the SDC installation :

"could not find the external program explorer.exe"

something amazes me : why is it looking for explorer.exe, whereas IE's program name is iexplore.exe ?

BTW IE 6 SP1 works fine on my computer (er, I mean, it works as fine as you can hope from IE)

I have tried to run the SDC installer by simulating Windows 98 or Windows XP, but this hasn't made any difference.

do you have an idea ?

OK ... I think the best solution is to download an illegal ISO image (I've found a torrent). I'd like to know the point of view of the developers on this issue :

considering that I have bought the game (if you want I can give you my full name, e-mail address and serial number, but not publicly on this board, of course), is it any evil to download it ?

In other words, do you morally allow me to do so ?

The only problem is ... I won't be able to upload my games to the metaverse, will I ?

Explorer.exe is actually the exe for windows explorer.

You won't be able to submit to the metaverse if you use the pirated version.

If you have access to a windows machine,  you can install sdc on that machine, download Gal Civ, and transfer the files to your Linux box over a network, on a CD, etc.

We will be putting up a standalone version on the website, but that uses an installer, so I don't know how well that would work for you.

If neither of these options is viable for you, e-mail [email protected] with your name, e-mail address and serial number and see if he can work something out for you.

OK, thanks for your reply.

I have e-mailed kwilas with my serial number to ask him if I am allowed to use an illegal copy (that's the most practical solution for me, as most people around me run *nix).
