Seems like the AI mostly picks WAR party, anyone else notice different?

When I spy on them they almost always have 50% HP... which means WAR party... Is this typical? Do they ever pick anything else?

Well this can be more than just warparty.

- They could have picked military abilities.
- They could have found military resources.
- They could have researched military upgrades.

Most of the time they all have +50% HPs or more way before they could research them or have sufficient resources to grant this. I'm pretty sure the AIs get a lot more racial picks than we do (i guess double or even triple). I've played mostly smaller maps where it's easy to find out fairly early what all resources there are available on the map and I use more than my fair share of survey ships and research the speed techs much earlier than the AIs and thus I know I score the vast majority of the anomalies too because of this. Still with all this, the AIs racial abilities outclass mine until I am OVERWHELMINGLY more powerful tech wise than all the AIs and I start getting ALL the wonders and trade goods and stuff. At that point my racial abilities finally equal or exceed the AI's, but not until then.

The Survey Ships the AI start out with ususally are 60 hp max which certainly leads me to believe this to be true. Can an AI with an advanced government lose their elections too?

Well I've seen messages popping up now and then about the Torian ruler losing/regaining the senate majority, so yes, they can lose elections. Torians, or the Chaotic Good ones at least, belong to the War Party it seems.

I have noticed change of government for the AI several times in several games. So it happens from time to time, like for yourself.

If the devs say that the AI doesn't cheat, the AI doesn't cheat or the devs are lying.

I don't think the devs are lying so obviously either the AI's pick warparty or make sure they have military ability picks chosen. That's fair and square, nothing wrong with that as the player can make the same decisions.

Maybe, but if that is most always the case then it's not very random. I would like to see them pick different parties at random with maybe a emphasis on a favorite party. I don't really see the Torians always picking war party, the Drengin I can understand. It would be nice if the picks were more random.

I have noticed the Drengin always pick this, although im convinced the Goody goody alteran's always pick Pacifist, as they never have much of a military bonus.

Have you tried this out on various difficulty levels and checked this with all the races?

If it's the same all the time on every difficulty level, I agree. Then it should be more varied. The Altarians or Torians shouldn't be that warminded.

But for now I can hardly believe these picks are mostly the same for all races, till somebody has tests and confirms this.

I've tried from fool all the way up to Bright. So that's enough testing for me to lay claim to: "something's up."

bump. Am I still seeing things... this still seems to be true to me (about done with my current game to submit, and will see if this is still true in my next one).

Not that they ALWAYS choose WAR party, but it seems to predominate.

Hmm a nice feature would be to see the Picks the AI chose on the stats screen, maybe when your espionage gets hight enough?

Unless you can do this somewhere and im missing it?

That's a good idea!

It would also help determine your stance to certain, civs, i.e if the torians have all war bonuses, you need to be prepared. If the alterans have all research points, you know to ally with them and let them research for you ;)

But watch ut it can be misleading in mid to late game after techs and survey ships have done their thing.

I know, my point was to make putting some money into Espionage much earlier, as im sure your like me and dont use it until an hour or 2 into the game. Would give it a bit more importance and tactical advantage.

Maybe the AI can even be programmed to do the same, and make predictions on strategy based on the human choices.

Damn typos

my point was to make it worth putting some money into espionage much earlier.

I can't say I've played enough to notice but I was wondering if the various races have tendencies with all their starting picks... not just political parties.
