Desired Feature: "So-and-so has declared war on you!" dialog

Just like in Civ. The way it is right now, sometimes I'm not even aware someone's at war with me. I get hints by the fact one or more of my ships disapear in a puff of smoke, but that doesn't help much!

You get either communiques from them while on the map (similar to when you come in contact with them), or it pops up as an event. Maybe you're being attacked by pirates or a space monster.

I don't think it *always* needs to be announced... it's called a sneak attack. Check the relations menu and you'll see it listed anyway.

I'd also be keen on seeing a message informing me as to when another space empire has bitten the dust.

I often seem to be the last one to know.

only when they're conquered militarily, it seems. cultural domination of other species does not result in any message/video.

what do you mean? i've never gotten any specific message/video when the _last_ planet of a species defects ( other than the usual "planet X has defected to Y because they think their culture is spiffy" ).
