Why's the map editor so second rate

Why's the map editor so second rate?

You can only place the colony ship, the transport, the battle axe, battle cruiser, battleship and excalibur, not the entire range of ships available to a civilization during a game.

You can't edit the improvements on a planet. You cannot place starbases or constructers with which to build them. You cannot place minor races. Finally you can't edit the ships themselves ie their experiance level or damage points. Nor can you place ships in systems.

When it was a beta I could understand it but stardocks failiure to make a half-decent editor in the full version is very dissapointing.

I think that Stardock is now focusing on GalCiv II and The Politial Matchine.

They could still make the GalCiv II editor good though. I live in hope :)

Just a tip: If there is something in the beta that you think is lacking, you should say something.

Don't assume that we magically have the same opinion as you do.  I think the map editor in the expansion pack is very good. I used it to create the various maps in the expansion pack and found it easy to use and powerful enough to do what I wanted to do with features to make it easy to create maps quickly.

You don't agree (obviously). But that doesn't make us at fault if you said nothing.  The map editor was available for almost SIX MONTHS in beta.

You can't start asking for major changes during RCs or after release. At that point, it's too late.

The main feature I think is lacking in the editor is "random map with certain constraints". For example, let each race start with a 2nd colony ship, but otherwise random. Yes, I did mention this when it was in beta.
