Submitting to metaverse

After several false starts (there are numerous ways to kill your economy in the early game, I've discovered...), I actually won a game on the simple level, yeahey! After smothering the Yor with a couple of battleships, a batallion of battle cruisers and battle hammers (incredible hull!) and a steady supply of battle transports, my Torean and Altarian allies were the only remaining races. Of course it did help that the Alexians had to give in to my cultural superiority, which gave me a star system with 30 billion inhabitants, skyrocketing everything except morale.
Anyway, after this success, I've turned my attention to getting the amazing score of 118 submitted into the metaverse. I played the game on my laptop and I wasn't connected to the internet when the game finished. Since I dimly remembered reading somewhere that scores would be submitted when the computer became connected, I left the summary. From reading other posts, that might've been a mistake.
Now, I'm not totally sure what should happen in regard to submitting my score. I've clicked on the metaverse button in the game, and gotten the list and even registered to the metaverse. In the two boxes it showed my name and what I think is my serial. Then I got a screen telling me that I was registered. When I went back to the metaverse, I would still let me register. That may be the usual behaviour of the page for all I know.
Anyway, from reading other posts, I have the impression that there should be a submit button in the main menu of the game. There isn't one. Some posters suggests that it appears in the game after connecting to the internet. Well, I'm connected now at work (T1), and there still aren't any submit buttons.
So I'm wondering... Do I have to have an active connection to the internet when I finish my game? If that's the case, then it's not very intuitive, to say the least. And if the lack of a connection means my score is lost, then it's becoming irritating. But someone suggested that bulk submissions to the metaverse are performed, so I guess it's not that bad.
What is the solution to my problem? How do I get my incredible score submitted? I've got a spot waiting for me in the top 500, which I can't wait to fill!
Do I have to win another game, this time leaving the summary screen connected to the internet? Or is there a magic spell? Oops, wrong game.

Oh, great game!!!
Best 4x I've played since MOO1. Gives me the same warm and fuzzy feeling, not to speak of bleary eyes in the middle of the night when I realize it's only two hours till someone very small and very significant decides it's time to wake up and be bright and shiny. Didn't have that with MOO1, though.
