Latest version, trading messed up?

i mean i tried to trade for industrial theory, and they wouldn't accept ANY of my technologies

i even tried all of em:

diplomacy, weapons theory, universal translator, photons and phasers, what happened to even trades? shouldn't the computer see it as 'fair' to trade industrial theory for weapons theory?

I've noticed that the first basic techs are VERY hard to trade from other races.
So that includes Industrial theory, medical theory etc....

Never thougth it was a bug, the techs are so fundamental that I guess the other races just don't feel like sharing ;)

I have had the same problem in this build . . the AI will not even go one to one for techs of the same level and even with being frendly and I with massive trade advatage. . .

Last version this worked fine and a good way for "friends" to share vs a greater evil :)

I have the latest update and the trading seems ok, but it's definitely tied much closed to the attitude. My ally and I trade almost one for one, while guys with a "Cool" relationship want a half-dozen techs of mine for one of theirs.

In a recent game, I sold all my technologies to the Arceans to keep the Drengin from wiping them out (and deciding to come for me before I was ready), and I had no trouble getting a nice trade (lots of cash for a long time, nearly all of their influence).

try getting defense theory. i swear you could offer avatar technology and they still wouldn't do it ( although i've never tried this, but you get the idea ).

anyway, i prefer it to the old settings. now you really have to think about your trades.

cheers

Yes, you have to have a Chance to make a good deal, especially if you have the skill AND they are receptive.
I also tried to give them $100 for $90-$99 in return (0 months, ie. no differences in time and all normal AIs). And they where neutral or higher to me . . no dice! . . .What is up with that? I can’t even give them a profit? If a person gave me 10+% more money just for the act of it changing hands and I did NOT go for it I would be a called an idiot. There is something wrong here . .
I am sure it will be fixed . . but, The sad part its I don’t dare to continue my game for fear that I will be playing at such a additional disadvantage (it is touch and go as it is) . . I whish I could uninstall that last update . . but No real biggy. I will wait. Just wanted people to know that there really seems to be problems . .

I think it's a bug to do with the initial techs- I've noticed the Ai will not bother to research Weapons theory at all usually, but still be able to get photons/phasers somehow.

As to trading other techs, in my current (Bright) game- I've been able to round up money in pretty vast amoutns throughtech trading. I don't think it's broken in that we can't do it, I experience it the other way around; it's *almost* too easy. Especially with the minor races.

Yeah, they're pissy about the "theory" techs. Everything else trades more or less as expected. They will give them to you, but they want like a starbase for them. Obviously, it's easier just to research them for a month or two. The funny thing is, they won't pay nearly as much for them as they will other techs...so much for valuable! :D

But, what about strait $$? they are so “strict” they wont even make a profit for themselves :notsure: . I really think that is messed up. Also, I think the bonuses should make a real difference here. A novice trading race should get the “short end” when dealing with a skilled or expert race. . There also should be some ambiguity on what IS a good deal. . Yellow words during trade should means they MAY go for it rather then they will NOT.
Possibly two AI checks . . One, “is it a good deal numbers wise” (modified by skills, and disposition) and Two “can I afford it”. The third is “can I use it” but this would be a AI programming manner rather then a simple formula as the other two are.

The combination of your diplomacy skill and theirs does affect the amount of money per transaction. If there's enough difference to affect it, there'll be a parenthetical message to that effect in the "trading console".

Yup, I know that is why I know I am "skilled" compaired to the ones I am tradeing with . . . These ARE the ones I am talking about too . . you would think it would mean something. :notsure:

It has a very small effect, IME...couple of percent at most...but it's there.
