Space Monster Pathing -- Straight to Target

Has anyone else been given the impression that the space monsters make a straight route to the star base, planet, etc. that it "wants" to attack? Even with Eyes of the Galaxy, I have yet to see the thing wander aimlessly around. I saw it cross three empty sectors, in perfect direction, to attack a star base.

Your point being?

Maybe it can "smell" the starbase.

Look, Dearmad, no need to get snarky. We are all trying to understand the aspects of the game. This is just another one of them.

Actually, doktorstick, my initial response, in a completely non-snarky manner, was the same as Dearmad's. Perhaps they have some sort of sense that food or some astral disturbance lies in a particular direction and that's just where they go. Seems plausible to me. Erf.

I have seen one monster so far, and it was attracted to some outlying Arcean colonies. It must have sensed weakness (my planets had relatively heavy defenses - plus I was in the middle; monsters seem to come from the map edge.)

perhaps they smelled the base. perhaps they had esp. perhaps perhaps. Perhaps one would get some idea of WHY; especially after a random event. Otherwiswe, it smacks of Moo3 lack of feedback, in MY humble opinion.

It is not 'cheating' if the AI monsters discover the other races with the same ease that they discover you. And I have a feeling they certainly do.

What would you rather have them do.. wander in aimless circles until they finally accidently ran into a scout or something? Or maybe after a FEW events, a barrage of wandering space monsters all find your system at the same time. Now *that* would be fun. ;p

It is not cheating, it is just the way it is.

It makes sense to me, after all the Space Sharks are nothing more than predators that live in space. Creatures on the hunt have a one track mind. ;)

Cheating? LOL.

It's a space monster- do you expect it to build a space monstery empire?

oops, now that was a little snarky. But my first reply wasn't meant to be. I was just pointing out that the way a space monster behaves is the nature of that particular random event, cheating doesn't enter into the equation here- like the UFP resolution to give people you techs. It's not cheating, it's a defined aspect of the game play.

Space Monsters are Omniscient. That is, they don't have fog of war. Same for the "pirates".

There are 5 different civilization types:
civilization_major
civilization_associate (i-league, draginol, calor, dread lords, Arnor, Precursors, Athelais, Iconians)
civilization_minor (alexians, etc.)
civilization_pissant (randomly generated minor races)
civilization_special (pirates, space monster)

The civilization_special had to be done differently since they don't have a "home planet" and hence range, sensors, etc. would prevent them from being effective. P

civilization_pissant? LOL

But seriously, what differences would the minor and pissant races have? They always seem to act the same way.

Associate races are a halfway point between major and minor races. While they can't vote in the UP, they can essentially do everything else that a major race can, including expansion outside of their system and even having their own culture.(at least the I-League does, I haven't seen some of the other examples like Athelais or Iconians)

Pissant? hehe... Ok, would you care to drop some hints about how that is different from the minor ones?

The I-League can expand beyond their system???

Why then did they have 6 col ships waiting while I colonized a neighboring system?

I have yet to encounter the Iconians, but I wonder if the name came from the ST TNG episode "Contagion;"

"Iconia:
Coordinates 227 Mark 358, Planet II.

The Iconians were long thought to be just a myth, no the Iconians are certainly real. We know that three systems within this sector had a number of cultural similarities, similarities that could only be explained by there being a single unifying influence. These worlds were either colonized or probably conquered by the Iconians?

The Iconians were believed to be warlike. Ancient texts did speak of "Demons of Air and Darkness" when referring to the Iconians. Legend has it that they traveled without the benefit of spaceships, merely appearing out of thin air on distant planets. "

That would be very cool.
Speaking of the strange associate/special races, we should keep a list of all of them for easy reference. It would be handy for any newbie(much like ourselves :D) to know what they are up against.

Examples:
I-League: Discontent citizens of all the other empires revolt and join this throught a game.
Space Sharks: I forget their official name, but they are what happen when zoos go horribly wrong. ;)
Calor: Aren't these the space terrorists?
Draginol, Dread Lords: If they pop up, all you can do is pray....

Obviously this is extremely rough around the edges, but it would be handy to work at to help others out.
