How nice are the other races to each other?

I'm still at the point in my GalCiv career where I'm constantly astonished how far ahead of me the other civs get, at least in the early game, particularly knowing that they're not "cheating" (at least in the sense of receiving additional resources). But I did read the FAQ (or somewhere) indicating that the AI civs trade more techs than they research.

So I was wondering, especially in the early going, how "nice" the civs are to each other... Do they freely hand over techs to anyone who asks, allowing them all to essentially collude against the human player? Or something like that?

Because otherwise, I must REALLY stink. ;)

No, the AI will not hand over techs to the human player unless you are meet some of the following conditions.
Militarily you are huge,
Economically you are huge,
Diplomatically you are huge.

Even then they may not hand over the tech depending on the type of tech you are asking for.

The AI trades with each other freely during the game. They trade many techs much easier than they do with humans.

Some techs like ship techs are almost untradeable to a human but they trade those to each other.

Try browsing through the 4 or 5 pages of the strategy forum and you will find plenty of ideas and tips to help you out. You have to concentrate on all things to get a really good start. I feel that part of the fun is learning how all the combinations go together to allow you to lay a beating on the AI.

I have been playing this game for over a year and I am still learning tricks. :CONGRAT:

I heard that the Drengins will often go over to the Altarian's place and they'll get riotously drunk together. Nobody wants to hang out with the Yor though 'cos they've got no sense of humour!
