GC manual: disappointing and annoying

I was really looking forward to buy GC, cause I love MOO-like games and MOO3 was a big disappointment.
After playing ten minutes I was still enjoying, cause everything seems to be logical and easy to learn for a 4X player. But the the first questions came up and I thought it was a good idea to read the manual.
But then the disappointment starts: the manual ( German version ) has 10 (!!!) pages. 10 bloody pages! Moo2 which has this amazing ingame GalacticEncyclopedia and explains everything by subtext had a manual with more than hundred pages - so had Alpha Centaury.
Then I tried the online help - well even if there would be a good online help - it´s not as good than a printed manual, because a online help is only good as long as the developer keeps the page online...well everybody knows that this is not a thing you can reliy of, developers disappear quicker then the sun in the evening these days.
Of course the online-help is in English only...selling foreign versions of the game seems to be fine for Stardock...but support? Why? They already bought the game and they are only customers.

Well I am quite lucky because I speak alittle English, but many others are not, and its almost impossible to find a German board where you could ask questions...

OK, I am coming down now and I will give the game another chance becaus it really looks like the kind of game I would love to play. I just wanted to say that this is not the way how support or customers relationship should look like 2004, and I hope somebody of Stardock will read this.

Hope that stardock reads your letter and responds. The english manual was out of date at the time the game was released. There is a FAQ located here http://www.galciv.com/encyclopedia.asp?action=showpage&page=http://www.galciv.com/faq/faq.html

The strategy forum has many good hints. If you have a question post it and you should have an answer within 1 - 24 hours. In most cases you will have multiple answers.

Please do not give up on this game. If you liked M002 you will like this one.

Icho will answer your questions in German - he is a German speaking player of the game.

I know what you mean about the manual (or lack thereof). I had almost half of the tech tree (with costs) reinvented before finding this work done at the Orion site. Your comments do make me think that one way to create a somewhat thriving player community is to create a minimal player's manual. Player's are almost forced into banding together and sharing strategies as there isn't any other recourse.

We think it is the best community for an active game that has ever come together. check out the empire threads. You can find those by pushing the button on the left that says Empires.
