Tech Savvy

The computer says error in its digital voice
with a hint of mock sympathy.
Unable to install proper drivers,
the computer informs me.
I should stand up, walk away,
take a drive to clear my head.
What Dad did when Mom nagged too much,
got in the station wagon and drove,
treating problems like rattling under the hood;
it can’t be that bad until you break down, he would say.
I heard the rattling for so long
I thought lives ran better that way.
A metallic ding followed by too many warnings
tell me the computer doesn’t agree
with what I want it to do;
Like all teenage boys from my neighborhood,
rebelling against their remaining parent.
Summers of stealing baseball cards from the drug store
only to give them to my brother.
The crinkle of foil wrappers in my pocket
as I climbed the infinite number of stairs to my room.
And out came the wooden spoon,
our surrogate father. I do this because
I love you
. I told my computer as I deleted files,
molding it to the image of what my computer should be;
only to find past actions of mine were to blame
for the malfunction, as my computer likes to put it.

I hope Adam and I will always be the only ones who really understand this. It's good writing, and I really like it. Kind of stings to read it and relate it so directly to our childhood.

yeah, the worst part is that the computer stuff works too well. hehe

You should not let a malfunction, deter you from what you feel should remain in your archives of young life--save it to a floppy and get a new hard drive.

Nah mate it don't rock, it sucks, too much teenage angst, fess up and be a man you god damn whinging Yank bastard. oooo stole a baseball card did we, try pistol whipping a cop at 13 and then write a poem about it. Jesus H Christ at an orgy, what the hell is the matter with the youth of today, rebel? REBEL, you don't know the fucking meaning of the word. Infinite stairs to your bedroom, are you on crack!!, if you have infinite stairs to your bedroom you gimp you would never get there. Don't give up your day job flipping burgers or pumping gas or whatever the hell it is that you Iraqi bombing bastards do all day.
Ps Very interseting use of displaced iambic pentamiter in the 7th line, shows promise, although the tendancy to italicise stress points within the text grates and actually lessons the pleasure for the reader. In all I would say 8 out of 10.
