Game Crashes

I am having a recurring problem with GalCiv crashing.

The game works fine initially. I save the game, quit the game and then come back to it later. I load the game and it is fine. When I end the turn after loading the game, it crashes to the desktop without any error messages. This problem has happened on several games.

I have the latest version, correct sound drivers, direct x and I have turned off autosave.

What do I do now?

Are you sure that you have the latest versions of both stardock central, and galciv? Because if you don't that could be a problem. I used to get that problem all the time, but I just turned off autosave, downloaded all the latest versions of everything, and well I guess that did it for me! :) Also if this doesn't help, then all I have left to offer is to try reading some of the posts at this link. http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=178533

I turned of my auto but still have had one crash (not shure why though).

I have also herd that it could be a sound /movie file messed up and carie has it fixed but not released yet.

As mentioned turn off the auto and maybe sound and have fun till the fix is released.

Have you tried running smartException (the file produced is in the root directory where Galciv was installed)? What is the last line of the file debug.err?

I keep getting the same problem. I think its when the Torians do something. I think it starts to play a movie, or show a screen but crashes first.

They have advanced tech, so maybe its the Tech victory for the Torians. Its driving me mad, coz I don't know the result of all my labours.

My crashlog says divide by zero error >:(

Never heard of this one.. Maybe it should be in the Bug report thread? :)

i just finished my first game and had two crashes toward the end. first time i clicked on a trade route ship and the program ended with no report of error.
2nd time - i had just conquered the last major race and hit the turn button - to no avail. i also couldn't shift the galaxy map more than a few pixels. the turn button had turn into a circle with a slash through it.
i killed the program, reloaded to a few turn earlier (luckily) and completed the game.
btw, one of the minor races ended up being my biggest competition! cool!

Meaty Miltsniff: if you ever have the turn button stick again, try opening up the planet data window and closing it.  Sometimes the planet events cause the button to stick.

I have similiar promblems sometimes. Randomly after i hit the turn button the program exists to the desktop. In one game, i found that this happened ater i clicked on one of my terror stars. After many experiments on this game, i just stayed away from the terror star for several turns and for the rest of the game i was fine. Other games i was not so lucky.

RaptorRed: I think that the 1.51 version of AP has a fix for the Terror star crash, but maybe the fix didn't make it into 1.21. I'm working on an update for both Gal Civ 1.21 and AP in my spare work time, so I can't give you a date of when it would be available.
