Losing an invasion despite a large advantage

I just played a game where I had a 25 to 2 advantage when trying to invade a planet and lost. there were 2 planets in the system. A class 42 (yes a 42) with 11B and a class 21 with 2B. After that a got another transport and tried again. The pops were 6B and 1B, and succeeded the second time. Both transports were full and I used "normal" method. (I wanted to keep it a 42 :) ) Anyone else had this experience when invading very high quality/high pop systems?

Depends, maybe his troops had a higher quality, or some + bonuses affecting him. Next time nee what figure he has. If his Troops are rated 2.05 and yours are still 1.05, your gonna have a hard time fighting your way out of a paper bag ;)

Thats why you use the combat transport and send 5b down to invade. Or better yet, group some regular transports so they invade as a group.

Yup. You needed more soldiers than you initially sent.

This is why you check out planets before you send an invasion force. Even with better tech, overwhelming numbers can win. With your tech advantage I wouldnt have gone in with less than 5b, preferably 10b just to be safe. This is why anytime you have morale issues, just build a combat transport, load a few billion and ship them off to the front lines. >:)

Teach them to complain about overcrowding.
