Master of Orion 2 and GC : the differences.

Hi all GC fans. I am old moo2 player, who never played GC, but heard many good things about it. Can u tell me which things are better/worse/different then moo2 ?

Moo2 is a classic and I feel is in its own category. However GC is a great game with the same premise. I tried out Moo3 and hated it after which I discovered Galciv. Pretty much all of the things that made moo2 addicting is included in this game. :)

One more thing that makes it unique is the submitting of your score at the end of the game to the Metaverse. Players can join a Empire or create one of their own. The AI will learn from the best players to improve the game (programmers examine the play styles and write code to make them harder I understand). I enjoy the Empires myself a lot of fun and good way to meet others who enjoy the game.I hope that helped a little bit. Anyone who loves this type of game will love Galciv. :D

There are many similarities between Moo2 and Galciv.

I think that you will find that galciv has a much better political and economic features. There are more victory conditions in Galciv than Moo.

You can only play humans but you get to pick your bonuses similar to creating a race in Moo2.

Research is slightly different but not in a bad way. Espionage / spying is better in Moo2 in my opinion as well as destabilization.

Ship building in moo2 is better and the fact that you can upgrade your ships in moo2 is a nice feature.

The graphics and depth of features in Galciv are better than Moo2.

If you like Moo2 then you will like Galciv once you get over the learning curve. Galciv has many ways to play and win.

If I was to say anything bad about Galciv it would be the MASO level of play. Diplomacy and influence are such key factors in this game at the higher levels. Once you discover how to use these factors Maso becomes almost as easy as cakewalk.

GC is effectively Moo 2.5 IMO. And its a much better game than Moo3. As newfy said, the most obvious thing missing is the ability to design your own ships, but that's in development for GCII I think.

GC focuses a bit more on the political/culture develoment side of empire building than Moo2 did, which is probably why it lacks things like custom ship design and a separate battle screen (not that I particularly miss Moo2's clunky combat maps). The focus is slightly different but they're very similar games at heart, something I think al Moo fans are thankful for.
