How do I read the map?

I'm in a large universe and can't read the map. I was diagnosed as poor at math and spatial things, so I do need help.
On the other hand, I know how to set an auto pilot in motion and find some planets. This is a good game.
Godspeed,

I have the same problem play gigantic.

What I do is center on Sol, and zoom into Sol in only the section of the map I am interested in.

One thing that can help is to turn on the sectors button. This will color the sectors that are owned. Your sectors will be blue, dregin red and arcean yellow and so on. This button is located just below the map.

Another thing is to zoom in the map, at the top of the map there is a + and - button that will zoom in/out the map.

I like to turn on the show production button because that will highlight all known planets in the color of ownership.

If you continue to have problems you can quickly switch to the tactical map which will overlay on the main screen. It can be done from the planet list screen on the right side or you can do this with one of the function keys.

Another thing that may help. Play tiny/small/medium maps until you are used to them then switch to larger maps.

Hope this helps you out.

Also, you can bring up the tactical map from the planet list (there's a button at the top) which creates a larger version of the minimap, if that's helpful to you.  It can be particularly useful when used with either the planet list or star list when working on a empire wide scale like deploying constructors or changing social projects.
