Galciv 1.22 and AP 1.52

Stupid question but... are saved games (and saved campaigns) compatible between 1.21 / 1.51 and 1.22 / 1.52?

Thx in advance.

I think yes. But I may be wrong.

If in doubt its best to finish the current game before upgrading to 1.22 & 1.52.

Yes they are safe. When in doubt, use the archive feature of SDC. :)

Thx friends.

Btw I am having a VERY difficult time with mission 8 (Torian Vengeance) so I am afraid it will take some time before I can safeloy upgrade!

Yeah, that one took me a long time also.  I ended up having to destroy colonies as soon as I invaded them since I couldn't hold on to them.

Very good suggestion Cari... I'll reload some saved games now.

It's great to see you on the player's seat too!

Its not a good idea to update to a new verison while playing a game. Finish current game first. I found that out the hard way many times. :notsure:

BUG REPORT

On the Save Game window (but NOT the Load Game window) when you select an existing saved game and click DEL, it does not delete the game. This bug also existed in 1.51.

MINOR BUG:

The random event where a diplomat (in my game it was Drath) insults another leader (in my game it was Altarian) and starts a war happened during AP campaign mission 7. This game is Human+Altarian team VS. Drath+Korx team. It doesn't make sense to have this event when the entire scenario has both teams permanently at war with each other.

MINOR BUG:

In the start of turn news report, I got the "Twilight of humanity?" report. Both myself and the race I was at war with (in my game it was the Drath) had equal (economy+military) ratings of 270. The report still read that the humans are losing and this is "chilling news!".

QUESTION:

Does the Planetary Defenses social project affect your ships in orbit, or does it affect ground troops during an invasion, or both?

BUG REPORT (AP 1.52):

In the game I am playing, there was a point where my ally (Altarians) were just starting to attack an enemy AI's fleet (Drath). Both sides had about 30+ ships each in fairly close proximity. After a few initial battles, all AI combat ships (Altarian, Drath and Korx) just stopped moving! This was the case everywhere on the map, not just in the combat area. I hit next turn about 30 times to see if anything would happen, but nothing would move. All combat ships were permanently idle.

Other things worth noting about this bug:
- Saving the game, quitting GalCiv completely, and then reloading the game WILL unfreeze the ships and allow the game to continue :)
- Freighters (AI produced full-size ones AND trade route mini-freighters) were NOT affected by this, and continued to move normally
- AIs appeared to continue doing research (I noticed that their "current project" on the Stats screen changed over time)
- At the end of each turn, the game would freeze for several seconds while focused on a Altarian corvette, before moving to the next turn

Since a quit/reload gets things moving again, I'm not sure how I could reproduce this bug -- sorry.

BUG/FEATURE?:

In my current game (using AP 1.52) I have noticed the following AI behavior. An AI ship is targeting one of my planets for an attack. For example, lets say the AI ship is a Battleship with a max move rate of 3. My planet is 4 squares away from the ship. If the AI ship moves straight toward the planet, so that its last movement point puts it adjacent to my planet, it is allowed to attack on that turn. Isn't the attack supposed to be considered another move (thus requiring 4 movement points)?

Also related to this:
When I put one of my own Constructors on auto-pilot for an existing Starbase (in order to add a module) I see a similar effect. If the Constructor has 3 movement points, and the Starbase is 4 squares away, I still get the starbase upgrade prompt on the turn where the 3 movement points were taken (that ended adjacent to the starbase with the last move used up).

Is this the intended behavior, or a bug?

BUG REPORT (Crash To Desktop) in AP 1.52:

This sequence of events happened in my game and caused a CTD:
- The last race in the Korx empire defected to my side (due to my high culture influence)
- There was a United Planets vote due on the next turn
- When I clicked the Turn button, the UP vote started and the Korx were still in the vote (with the influence points of their last planet counting for their vote I assume)
- The vote was for Monster Zoo. I didn't wanted anyone to have it, so I voted for the Korx. Everyone else voted for themselves, so my vote gave the Korx a win.
- Immediately after I closed the UP vote screen, Crash To Desktop!

The player can do this too, if you use autopilot. When in autopilot you can attack your target once if you run out of moves next to them.

This applies to constructors building a starbase on a resource, constructors improving a starbase, colony ships colonizing a planet, and transports invading a system as well.

This happened again, later in the same game (which I am dragging on for my own sick amusement). The freeze seems to be centered on one ship each turn (not the same ship as before however), again with the cursor focusing on that ship at the end of turn. The game "thinks" for several seconds with the cursor on that ship.

This is occurring on AP campaign mission 7 (Power Struggle on Korx) with the 'focus' ship in the vicinity of the two clusters of Drath planets. Could this be due to:
a) The large number of at-war combat ships in close proximity?
b) So many inhabited worlds in a small area?
c) A combination of (a) and (b)?
d) Bad karma? ;)

I will assume that a reload will unfreeze it again, but I will keep the savegame anyway (with the focus ship marked) in case it can be of any help.

SMALL ENHANCEMENT REQUEST:

In the late game, there are a TON of messages in the box on the lower-right corner for completed production items. It would be nice if there was either:
a) A button to clear them all without clicking on them
b) An options on the options screen to supress all completed production messages

BUG REPORT (AP 1.52):

In the save game window, if you select an existing saved game, change the name and then save, it will ask you if you want to overwrite the existing file. Say yes. It will actually save a new game (with the new name) and does not overwrite the existing file.

Hmm...works fine for me.

If you shift click on the first and last ones, it will clear all of them.  There is currently a crash when you do this, but I have fixed this and it will be in the update which I hope to have up today.

I'm not sure why the AI is getting stuck, or that I've ever noticed it. Do you get slowdowns during ship battle? Some people have trouble with that, and it could be bogging down the AI threads on your computer.
