Gal Civ 1.22 and Altarian Prophecy 1.52 update

This was a very minor update.  We just fixed the crash that was introduced in version 1.22 and 1.52 and fixed the bug that didn't allow loading scenarios.  Sorry for the delay.

Just purchased AP and downloaded the latest release last night. Started a game and noticed that a couple of resorce asteriskls are showing up on the mini map but that area is still under the fog of war shroud on the main screen. I have a save game if needed.

Is there any way to get rid of all the "Trade route destroyed" messges that happen when you start a war? They are getting in the way of my planet explosions :)

This is probably part of the trade route bug fix. I think they couldn't find the reason why the trade routes weren't getting cleaned up after taking over a star system with a trade route with you, so they did the next best thing - they re-routed through a clean-up routine that they KNEW worked - that is, the one where it says the trade route has become too risky...

In my book, that is a splendid fix. Sometimes a routine is just too complicated to figure out why it doesn't work, so you just redirect it to a similar routine that you KNOW works.

Bill

PS - thanks, Cari, for supporting GC well after its end of life.

AP latest version hung once this mornign where all I could do was power off the computer. Later it crashed to the desktop. Dounbt I can reproduce either problem but it's frustrating to see this after the game has been out so long and patched so often.

Hmm seems at least one of the mayor (imo) bugs are still there:
The incorrect reserach point calculation. I was trying to finish a galactic wonder and a research project on the same turn, so I tveaked the sliders until I got what I wanted, or rather until the status showed that I would get it. But no I did not get the research project, so now I hvae to either waite another turn wasting research or reload and try again.

Will this bug be fixed or will we have to live with it?

Another bug that's also still there (this however is just a moinor inconvinience): the incorrect calculation of turns left for completing projects (ttc). Ex. Cassius II produces 12 production points for it's social project, the current project is 12 points from completion, the ttc displayed is 1 where it should be 0.

Think of it like any other projection - it's just an estimate. And as we all know, those kinds of estimates are almost always over-optimistic. ;)

Possible bug in 1.52 - I just traded Battleship Technology to the Torians for a Death Knight.

How could they have built a Death Knight without Battleship Tech? There is no evidence of them trading for it in the debug.err file.

they could have found it in an anomily

For the calculation of the turns needed the system uses what you spend on research in this turn and what you got on free research in the last turn.

This way the system tells you that you can finish expensive research projects "Next turn" even though you spend zero on research. :SURPRISED:

But after the next turn you don't get it :sniff!: and the time is set to infinitely.

When you load a saved game it calculates without any free research. When you have a high research ability this can lead to ridiculous values. e.g. the system tells me I need another 12 month but nevertheless I get it when the next turn.

This way you can never tell how much you waste or when you will get a technology.

I still hope that it will be fixed. :HOT:

I just stopped by to thank Cari for still supporting GalCiv this far past its end of life cycle!

Yes, CariElf does a great job. :CONGRAT:

Stardock still sells GC for the full price. A frind of my bought it not long ago. It was much easier to convince him when he saw that it is still supported :HOT:

Maybe we have a chance that she drops over at the code for the technology costs calculation ;p

Btw. where do I find the version history for the latest update (1.22/1.52)?
Try this http://sdcentral2.stardock.com/public/gc1/production/history.htm
I got the link from stardock central

Thanks for the link PP, unfortunately the list does not detail the changes to the gameplay.

I might have found a bug in AP, in my instalation of AP I have a GCTech.TECH file in ...\Stardock\AtarianProphecy directory, the game however does not use this file but uses the one found in Data directory of the orikginal game. The files are slightly different. In the AP-version two techs require "Hyper Warp" in stead of "1D Phasing" and "Basic Logistics" is not pressent.
Hmmm...sounds like an upgrading problem to me. Since your GC folder contains a GCTech.TECH file that doesn't include Basic Logistics, it sounds like you failed to upgrade GC to latest version that is needed to run with latest version of AP.

Make sure you have latest versions of both base GC and AP. :)

Well I have all the latest updates, so if it is an upgrade issue, the problem is in SD, as I have used SD for installing AP and upgrading both AP and GC.

And the GC directory does not contain a GCTech.TECH file, this files is correctly placed in the GC\Data directory, the AP directory does include a GCTech.TECH file, witch is the one not beeing used, and that dosn't include Basic Logistics. Does anyone else have a misplaced GCTech.TECH file in their AP directory?
Oh, btw. Why can't I sell/give away constructors?
I also have the "extra" GCTech.TECH file in my AltarianProphecy directory. Neither of my GCTech.TECH files has a tech called "Basic Logistics". Am I missing something?

End transmission.

Martin, you can't buy or sell constructors because otherwise you could just buy the AI's constructors right before they reached their destination and this causes cheesiness.

Both of you need to update GC to version 1.22 using Stardock Central. If you are using a Drengin.net or TGN serial number and it has expired, you will have to e-mail support to get access to the latest updates for Altarian Prophecy and the base Gal Civ.

Cari,

I'm running 1.22, but with mods (including graphics mods). I don't think I'll have time to play again until the new year, but I'll run Smart Exception and if/when the game crashes again I'll sent the appropriate files. (I read your Bug Report post).

End transmission.

Cari, I have updated both GC and AP using Stardock Central. My versions are 1.22.101 and 1.52b.012. I just downloaded the two files from yoou last post, they match the my Data directories. So I'm still curious as to why there is an unused GCTech.TECH in the root directory of my AP.

I can se why trading constructors are dissalowed, was just wondering.
