Upload To Metaverse

Hey there,

Great community you got going here.
I don't have an internet connection on my PC at home.

Is there anyone who may have some suggestions as to how I may upload my scores?

I wanna register and join an Empire... (:(

Thanx.

MarekDeMalek,
That may be a problem. No dial up, not cable, no nothing, heh? If you know of a friend who had an internet connection, you could load you game on his machine. Play the game on your machine, at the end don't submit the game and copy the saveendgame to a floppy disk and take the disk to your friends house and start the game, load the saveendgame file and hit return. This will allow you to then select submit. Yor will of course need to register you serial number and player name on the Metaverse. To do this go to the Metaverse page and hit the register button. You can save as many games as you want on the floppy and submit them one at a time all at the same sitting at your friends house. Be sure and copy them to different file names, obviously. Also, suggest you erase them after they have been accepted. Check on the Metaverse first. You will probably have a few problems getting things set up right, so any game that doesn't show up in your history can be resubmitted. If you have problem, come back and ask more questions.

Let us know how you do. Check out the empire forum and find a group that you like. Welcome to the Meta - a strange place indeed. :D

Thanx so much for the advice.

I was actually just about ready to try exactly that...
I have an internet connection at work so it shouldn't be difficult for me to stay a little late once a week and do an upload.

For the exorbitant price we pay and the pathetic bandwidth we get in my country, its not really worth having the internet at home.

So I take it that GalCiv will make a save game as the game ends?
I suppose that makes sense. Even if it doesn't I'll just use the last auto save.

Thanx a million,

The game does do a save, but only the last game you won.

When I can not reach the internet I save my games manually.

I can have several saved games ready for submission when I finally find I can reach the internet.

Ok,
So I went to the empires screen and Foundation and clicked on the Join button.
I don't know if anything happened so I clicked Join again just for good measure, but on my popup screen for my user the Empire is still blank.

Perhaps it will only show when I start uploading?

Another question...

Where can I see my user stats other than clicking on my name in the Forums on a post?

I can see users in the Top 100, but its gonna take a while for me to get close to the top 100.

Thanx.

You can't argue with science...

Foundation is the key,
as fortold by Isaac! :CONGRAT:

I think you are correct.

Cool,

I would hate to upload my 4,500 ( :SURPRISED: ) points that I have so far and the Foundation doesn't get them...

Tech, you might want to check that. There are members of empires that have never submitted a game.

:notsure: Marek does have a valid account if he did post something to the Metaverse he should be able to join an empire.

Passingbye I know you are correct, but I think many old Empires have players that joined so long ago and left without sumbitting that they have no score.

I think I read somewhere a player one of the beta testers decided to start playing Galciv again and could not find his old games.

You think next month your old scores from your pre-Passingbye days or Greldon's will disappear forever from the Metaverse :)

I know you would hope that would be true, Tech, but I don't think so. :D LOL :D LOL

Search your "name" while at the metaverse main page.

I tried that.
Didn't work, Maybe I made a typo, and I will try again, but I think that Search is just a search in the list, so if you aren't in the top 100, its just tough cookies!!!

Oh,
It does work...
Its just that I don't have any score yet.
I better hurry up and actually win a game.
I've one on the easy setting but last night I got seriously trounced on medium difficulty, in a medium galaxy with all the other civs active...

I still have a long way to go...
It may take a while before I am on that list!

Hey,
Anyone know how I can Download updates onto a pc with an Internet connection and then put the download onto disk and put it onto another machine without an internet connection?
I think I saw someone mention something about archiving to CD.

But How do I do that?
Is there some install file that SDC downloads and stores on your machine?
Or do I just copy the whole game folder and manually add some registry entries?
Thanx,
;)

The games you save are stored as *.sav

the path the games are stored in my computer at work is

C:\Program Files\Stardock\Drengin.net\galciv\Data\SaveGames

of course the path maybe slighty different on different computers.

Drengin.net is now totalgaming.net

Thanks Tech,

but I think there is a bit of confusion here...

I mean the actual version of AP.

At home I have Version 1.50.
But on Friday, SDC here at work went a bit trigger happy and downloaded the 1.52 or some such.
I am just concerned that when I try to load the save game that I brought from home today when my boss leaves I am gonna have version issues with the saved game.

The obvious solution is to uninstall AP and reinstall it and dissalow SDC from upgrading it.
But first prize would be for me to be able to get 1.52 (or whatever it is) on my pc at home.
Any ideas on how I can get 1.52 home?
Short of bringing my home pc into work?

Thanx,
;)

Ouch.

You maybe able to back up the AP 1.5 files from home to a CD and copy AP 1.5 from your home machine to the computer at work but I am not sure of :notsure:

This may work if you have Stardock Central at home.

If you do not have Stardock Central at home you should be able to download the latest version on Stardock Central , burn the downloaded file on a CD and install
SD Central at home later.

From Stardock Central

Select Galactic Civilizations AP

File - Archive Application - Selected Application

Then using SD Central at work you should be able to uninstall AP 1.52 and restore Application AP 1.5 from the backup you made at home.

Thats it!!! :D :D :D :D
WOW! :D :D :D :D
That Rocks! :D :D :D :D
An Archiver that Records the current state of the application for restore later...

Thats so Kewl!!! :D :D :D :D

I have already Archived 1.52 here, then I'll uninstall it, install 1.5 and upload, then take the 1.52 archive home and restore it there and play the new version at home.
Ta.

Thanx Tech! :HOT:
