buying galciv double pack

I once had galciv and sold it to a friend. Now I'm thinking of buying galciv with the expansion for christmas. One problem I had with galciv was that the AI talks too simply unlike alpha centauri. What does the expansion pack exactly add? How many new techs and random events? What's the total number of random events? Thanks.

Hey I know what you mean. No Galciv does not have the excellent diplomacy that SMAC/SMACX had. That game is all alone with how it was designed.

The diplomacy has not improved that much but all the other aspects of the game have. I was sort of bored with the first release of Galciv after the initial newness of the game wear off. Altarian Prophecy brought new life into the game. Especially with all the new Modding abilities, new techs, more events, extra races etc. I promise you that it will not disappoint you. I feel SMAC/SMACX was thee best 4x strategy game ever made.

I strongly suggest using some of the excellent mods made for the game. I am bias to a degree but I find Icho_Tolot mods to be the best around. Using his Mod packs will change the entire game.

Moser_The_Alchemists also has some great Mods. Not to discount anyone else's wonderful Mods, these are just my personal favorites. :D

Yes I thought they were but I have added over 40 of them to my games. I also added a lot of new anomalies so it is hard for me to judge. I think there are 20+ new techs and new ships also forgot how many 10 I think. Again I have Mods installed so I have around 200 more techs and improvements then the game offers. Icho_Tolot Mods are the biggest anyone has done for Galciv. Find his work at NeoTech he is a staff member there also. ;)

If you liked Galciv before you will enjoy AP that much more. I lost interest in the org Galciv but AP brought my back more addicted then I was before. Its not SMAC but it is the best 4x game there is without a doubt! :CONGRAT:

I don't like to use mods, seems unofficial and un professional and dosne't fit into the game. Most game mods are very low quality and I don't know how are the ones that you have been talking about. Which difficulty level is the most realistic? is it intellegent? but I read that on genius that the ai is better but it also cheats.

Well AI has tremendous advantage on genius. Using the modded political party research.inc can help you ;)

I am not one to help there I play only on Normal I am trying to learn how to play Challenging and have not figured it out yet. :d I have heard about the Mod Research Inc. I did not see what was important with it? The AI can use it like you can so how does it give a bonus?? :)

Wrong, this pol party has some negative bonus that generally prevent the AI to take it, especially at higher level :)
In short, this is a nice pol party that the major AIs generally don't take.

For 39.95 you can only download Galciv. For AP, you need 19.95 more. But you can alos subscribe to Totalgaming.net ($89) and get galciv + AP + others games available for totalgaming.net user : political machine, disciple II ultimate edition, ORB, cetlic kings ....

I went that route with two of my staff members. I felt bad as I wanted to support Stardock and purchase through them. To bad they are not selling the Deluxe Edition. :sniff!:
