More sound problems and mouse input to some menus

I just moved to a new Dell Dimension 8400 Media PC. I installed DirectX9c (latest from MS) and followed the rest of the directions in the Sound Problems post below. It eliminated the hangs and crashes and allws ship battle sounds to work. However, music doesn't work. Also, I cannot use the mouse to build starbases (need to hit "B) and cannot enter numbers for money to trade or bribe (have to use the mouse).

Running Win XP Media Edition 2005.

Any further advice?

Wow, that's bizarre.  Check to make sure that UserDefinedPlaylist is not turned on.  And you're saying that you can't click on the little build button on the ship data window?

User define playlist is off. I cannot build a starbase by clicking on build...I have to hit "B". I cannot make a survey ship "auto survey" by either using the mouse nor the keyboard. Movies do not play....neither does music. Battle sounds work.

The media center works find for movies and CDs and sound tracks. So far, my only problems are with GalCiv. I will install CivIII and see what that does.

SM Alpha Centauri works including the movies. Interestingly, SM Alien Crossfire doesn't. Stops with a "CPU not supported" message. I have a 3.2 GHx P4 with hyper threading.

The clicking on menu items such as "auto survey" is currently broken and CariElf has confirmed in the Bug Reports thread.

Interesting.  If you try playing the mp3s in Windows Media player or some other media player program, do they play correctly? And you get sound for other apps, so it's probably not that you don't have the digital output only box checked in your settings.

What kind of sound card do you have in the new machine? I see that it says integrated on that list, but if you check in system->Device Manager does it list the manufacturer?

Sample music - Beethoven - plays fine in Windows Media Player. The Media Center configuration and test all worked which extensively exercised the video and audio.

When I launch GalCiv - Altarian Proph. - from Stardock Central, the screen goes dark like its starting up, and then I get Galciv had a problem do you want to send ot Microsoft and Windows kills the process.

It seems the music and the movies work on the diplomatic screen for the Drath and the Korx only. No other movies or music work. Sounds (like battles) work.

The update fixed the mouse input build starbase and surevy ship auto survey problem. Music still only works for Drath and Korx.

Interesting.  Check to make sure that you have the Multimedia update installed, and if you do, check to see what the other mp3s are sampled at.  The Korx and Drath are probably sampled at 128 kbps 44 KHz (stereo)
