leasing

Is it good to lease things from companies? Is that how the AI has built constructors and colony sips so fast and the reason that my treasury is the fullest with 10000? and why does the ai have a higher score than me in tech but I no less techs than him?

You can lease (rush buy) but it is very expensive and can put your economy in the hole quickly. How fast the AI completes military, social, or reasearch depends on the level you are playing. The lower the level the longer they take. Depending on the pol party and starting picks you take you can increase these indiviual areas. I play very heavy economics so by the year 2185 I can start rush buying and still ahve a positive balance 200-500 bc/month even w/ spending at 100%. If your treasury is at 10000 and your spending is not at 100% that would be another reason they are producing faster than you.

Some of the main things you want focus on is keeping Morale as high as possible for the first several years. This will generate a strong tax base as high morale = more people per planet. Keep spending as high as possible but don't go below -500bc. If you do all building will stop.

I am not exactly sure what you mean by the last question.

If you haven't yet click on the empires tab on the left and check out the Star Fleet thread. JT can help you out alot.

It depends of your economy. In the beginning of the game, I usually rushbuy social project that have 1 or 2 BC of social production left.
BTW, rusbuying a social project and a military poject have different timing: rushbuying a social project allows you to change in the same turn the production. Rushbuying a ship is effective only at the begiing of the next turn.

Probably. ANd it is 1 000 BC at the beginning of the game, not 10 000 BC. And since you have so much treasuyr, you can use 100% spend rate and be in deficit as long as your treasury is neagtive. It is very help in order to be able to produce a colony ship every 3 turns on Earth.

Are you speaking about total techs or researched techs?

Leasing... I rarely find it "worth it" early in the game... the monthy interest rate offers from the various companies all strike me as too costly to a typical economy... personally, I see it as an unusable game feature. I'd rather trade a tech for money and slide the constuction bar to 75 or 100 percent for a while... or save some money and buy the item straight-up. In trading for money, BTW, you can get some better trades by agreeing to a 10 turn pay-off from the buyer (some where between 10 to 25 credits a turn; and some AI will pay much much more depending in the item of tech you sell them). Tech, don't play in a vaccumn... trade with AI players for techs early in the game. If your diplomacy ability is high (like +60), then you can often get 2 or 3 techs for swapping just one tech ;) The AI certainly trade tech with each other ;)

That works at low level. But not at higher ones :)

It isn't your absolute diplomacy that is important, it is the difference between your diplomacy bonus and your interlocutor's bonus. Having build the TG diplomatic translators and being the sole user (ie you have sell right of use to other AI) help a lot. As well as taking a pol party with diplomatic bonus or choosing some diplomacy picks.

Yes they do: look in the debug.err file.

Yep; but the advice is still sound in a general way in which I game it; but, yes, most certainly it is a "given" that the more bonus on diplomacy one gains (in play and in initial conditions - as I stated), then the better the chances for more worth while trades or deals; and even later in the game, it is possible achieve some great sales for tech to minor AIs and even certain regular AIs, but of course, it depends on AI difficulty settings, differences in diplomacy ability and what is being offered. I love those deals like when selling something like Battleship tech to an AI for 100 to 200+ credits per months for 20 turns. No doubt others have make some great trades as well.

But I still hold to my basic assertion: the interest rate on buying on lease is too high... making the thing about useless most of the time. I personally feel there needs to be a few more reasonable offers to choose from.

Bugs? Gads I hope that's not a problem in this game at this point in general.

Yes, but sometimes, the second option (interest on few months) is more profitable than paying cash.
