Some GalCiv/Stardrock Update/Registration questions.

I don't have GalCiv myself yet, but played it all weekend at my friends place. Now I want to buy it as well, but have some questions, concerning the internet side of the game:

a) I would want to install it on more then one PC (due to my work, I live at my parents place at weekends, and in the city I work in over the week). Would that be allowed, and more importantly, would there be any trouble updating and using the metaverse from two different PCs ? Obviously not at the same time of course. But from what I've seen on this page, it looks like I can only download the update if I log into that StarDoc utility from this page, which requires my serial, and to combat pirating, I wouldn't be surprised if there would be some kind of protection to stop using the same serial from more then one PC. I wouldn't want to risk my serial getting banned or similar, and I wouldn't like to pay for a game that I can only use on one of my PCs either, so I'm asking ahead :)

b) Kinda like the first one - I have a THIRD PC at work, that however has no internet connection at all (and I'm not allowed to create one, either) - could I update this PC at all ?

Thank you in advance for all answers :)

Regards,

[Twisti], thats a hard question for us little players be able to answer! Unless someone has had a similar experience.

You would be best posting in the Q&A sticky thread above, or mailing stardock technical help directly on [email protected]

BTW i think the answer to both will be yes.

Cheers

Thanks, I already looked around some more, and found out that I can download the patch as a regular file once I have the game & my serial, so at least technically, it won't be an issue.

Why dont you just zip up your full install, and get the latest (rubbish-ware) StarDock install, and rape your registry for the GalCiv and SDC settings.

[1] Install SDC
[2] Copy galciv files
[3] copy in old GalCiv and SDC keys
[4] Edit registry install location

Voila - you can play.

I was forced to sort it out due to the incompetence of the SDC coders. >:(

I was in the same boat Twisti. I travel during the week on business and am only home on the weekends. I installed Galciv on both my laptop and my home computer and have been able to update each using stardock to get the most recent patches. Haven't gotten any complaints about it yet. I install very few games on my laptop but I had to put this one on there. I couldn't handle not being able to play it during the week. I'm addicted.
