Played the game a bit over the weekend, and wondering about some things...

...I only played at a friends place, so I didn't waste my time reading his manual (although I read the one on this page this morning, is it the same ?), so forgive me if some of my questions are answered there.

a) After a while of playing, I had some planets that finished all they social projects, and built "nothing". I couldn't take the social slider down, because I had other planets still busy building things. Is there any way not to have those planets "idle" and waste ressources while waiting for slower planets to catch up ? Like, set the social project to "help military project" ?

b) I played with a giant map, and wondered - are starbases supposed to be nearly useless at those maps ? I would need like 10,000 constructors just to cover my empire with the basics. I loved using bases in my first game that I played on the setting below medium, because I only needed like 3 or 4 bases to cover my entire "empire", but that seemed just impracticable in a giant sized map.

c) My funny little explorer vessel from the start ended out with 60! defense, but only like 10 or 12 offense. I saw that theres upgrades for both in anomalies, but are they that unevenly distributed, or was that a bug ? I had it on auto explore so I don't know if the defense growed slowly or suddenly jumped there.

d) Even with habitable planets set to maximum, I still get way more grey stars then white ones. Bug or feature ?

here goes:

a) Not at the mo. There is a big sticky thread on this subject above.

b) They certainly arent useless! You just wont be able to point them everywhere you want, so will have to plan more carefully.

Mining special resources always affects your whole empire and can be very powerful. Putting them in strategically important spots can be a big help as well. (e.g. round best planets, on trade routes).

c) Attack upgrades give +1 attack, defence upgrades give +2 defence. Its not a bug (it stops your explorer ruling the galaxy!), and you can reach 60 defence this way.

d) Stellar cartography, right? It only picks out which stars are yellow, not which have the best planets. More habitable planets does not necessarily mean more yellow stars.

hope this helps :)

As for the last one - does that mean stars that are grey on the overmap (with stelar carthography) might still contain 15+ planets ?

Yup. Yellow stars are usually good, but other stars can contain 15+ planets. It depends on the actual star colour how likely this is.

The rare purple stars can give some *really* nice planets....
