Where can i get the newest version of GalCiv Writer?

Hello, where and how can i obtain the newest version of GalCiv Writer, and

which programs are available for modding the game? I'd be nice to have a full and up to date list/linksection of everything needed to mod the game, including ships and gfx, and...

perhaps a tutorial for people who had nothing to do with gfx and mdl-files up to now (like me).

For ships you need more than GC Writer. You'll need a good graphics art program that can permit you the ability to make only certain areas "transparent" and work in the *.png format (like JASC Paint Shop Pro -about a $129 at Office Max or similar store), a PAL editor, a ship rotater, Sprite Editor, and an MDL file unpacker/packer.

1. GC Writer in it's newest form needs an additional program (Net Framework) in order to work (I'm told), but the version prior to the latest does not, and it works just fine (what I currently use).

2. Sprite Editor, Pal Editor, and MDL packer/unpacker is a supper nice untility package provided by Dark Rain (if I recall correctly)... much would be difficult with out these things Dark Rain created. Thanks Dark Rain!! I think the Ship Rotator program is there too, if not, I'm sure someone will post a link for it.

BTW, I'm fairly new at this too, so if you run into issue or problems, just post... we probably can help each other... I recently complete my first new MDL ship graphic (a Borg Cube). See the Mod section of the forum for details.

Thanks for your fast answer, and the links collection. I think many new modders might appreciate this, too. I have been modding GalCiv some time ago with the old version and the notepad, though i did mainly new ships (with old gfx) and a few small improvements (i didn't post 'cause there were already similar ones in the library). I also used the old version to correct or change some existing mods. Before my HD crash i had 149 self-made events, all tinkered to fit various gfx taken from several art-sites from the net. Unfortunately i had no disk-image, so i have to find some of the sites anew and start working again.

By the way, i already downloaded your Borg cube, but it'll take some awhile before i can find the time to look at it in the game, 'cause i'm heavily involved in my job for the next weeks and not very often at home. Once i'm up to more time, i'm planning to mod again, perhaps even ship-models (if i ever get the hang of it), so i'll sure be glad for any help i can get or give.

Thanks again for your fast answer.

Tested the Borg-Cube. There should be something for you in the Mods-forum. :)
