argh! Alliance bug?

The Alterians declared war on me. Then their allys the Torians did the same thing. Fair enuf. I managed to make peace with one of them (bought them off) next turn they declare war on me again due to the alliance. I tried again with the other power - workd. But next turn, same thing happens.

Pretty frustrating. I could handle one, but not two powers at once. Anyone else experienced this? Maybe put a "no DoW on someone youjust made peace with for X number of turns..."

I think in this case it would be fair to say, expect to need to make peace with both or neither of them.

Which isn't to say that it doesn't sound like a bug.

Sounds like a routine being run that allows the peace, then runs itself, sees that its allies are at war and declares war.

Not fun. It makes sense that a seperate peace should be possible. Just have to make sure that it is reasonable.

"reasonable?" Hehe... see my Cheesemeister thread and the feeling frisky sticky thread. And I thought I might be all alone in wanting more reasonable diplomacy AI. :) :D

Personally, I would do the same thing. Sure I'll take your money and delcare peace. The next turn delcare war again because I can and have support from another race. Oh what? You want to give me money to delcare peace? Sure (sucker). ;)

The problem, solomani, is the nature of an Alliance. It's a statement that you're in it together, for better or worse. The only way that they could not redeclare war the next turn is by breaking the Alliance.

The reason that it's allowed to accept peace for one turn is because if it wasn't, a fight with anyone in an Alliance would be to the death, because you could never get peace. At least this way, you can go to each of the Alliance members individually and offer peace. If you can talk them all into it, you have peace that might just last, otherwise, you're back at war.

Personally, I'd like to see something similar to CivIII mutual defense pacts, where as long as I'm not in their territory, the pact doesn't get triggered. Having three races come down on me because one of them wanted protection money is a little silly, especially since the two allies to the bully were the good races.

The protection racket thing is definitely a bit wrong.

But the Alliance should include military support, it makes sense.

A certain cease-fire time would make sense to me and solve the problems.

But it also means you could theoretically buy off the alliance partner, and that should not be feasible.
That's the whole point behid their being allied.

Although a seperate peace should be possible. And I would think that if you got the instigator of the war to a peace treaty it would cause their allies to cease hostilities also.

The Allies certainly concluded the war as a single partner.

Hey Deamon451 I expect that from the evil races, but not from the good races. Especially when I am good as well and I had "warm" relations with both of them...

I Agree, if the 2 Civs apposing me, i dont expect to be able to buy one off, or if i do it should be mega expensive. As result they wil break the alliance, and maybe even go to war with their old allies.

I meant to say, if the 2 civs opposing me are allied,

Why not from good races? If you are an evil race it is not immoral to lie. If you are a good race maybe they think that you are a hinderence to the greater good that they can provide the universe. Oh well, Brad wanted to create a human level AI, I would be doing the same thing to the computer that it is doing to us. All I have to do now is start playing the game again. Havn't touched it in a week.

Another exploit here happens when there are two races in an alliance, one is big and one is small and weak. I've had cases where I'm at war with both and the smaller one contacts me to sue for peace and gives me basically everything they have. Next turn, WAR again due to their alliance. Next turn, they want peace and give me everything again. Etc.
