Someone wrote their monitor was too dark and wanted gamma correction. I used to have this problem with other games, and I discovered that you can usually adjust Gamma through your software:
Screen Properties (Right click on your desktop) - Settings - Adv Properties and the next differs from card to card. Under the Matroxx, you could click Colors, and then another menu and you could manually adjust your gamma. Under Nvidia GeForce 4, there are about 4-5 more steps.
If you already tried this, forgive me, but I was too foolish to realize this for a long time
