Invasion Combat Advantage

Can anyone explain how invasion strength works?

If I have 1M invaders vs. 4M residents do I need a 4-1 advantage on the randomizer to have a 50/50 chance of winning? I just don't get it...

That I don't. I've had a few surprises both good and bad with the random thing- all in all it's seemed balanced and fun.

The range of possibilities depends on your tech advantage, soldiering skill, etc... if you're basically on even footing with the AI you'll get small advantage numbers, but if you're lightyears ahead of him you'll have a chance at larger ones.
