How many colonies..?

I'm playing the latest version of GalCiv with the Altairan Prophecy. The setting is "Normal" and am playing with ALL the civs.

It used to be, I'd manage to get about 20 to 40 colonies before I ran into someone. Now, I frequently bump into a civ way before I'd want to deal with them. Now, I get about 5 planes before running into a civ.

I know that I need to change my strategy but to what? I'm used to playing with 5 other civs and getting 20+ planets on a GIGANTIC map.

By the way, the galaxy size that I play with is Gigantic, Abundant, and Tight Clusters.

What can I do? Thanks in advance.

Look in the strategies section - press the button on the left - and see if there is something there.

Just do Ctrl-N until you find a galaxy you like. It seems wierd and just bad luck to run into others that early.

You also might want to want to try Gigantic, Common or Rare, Tight.

I play Large Rare Tight and generally only get 5 systems. The AI only ges that many too, so it's pretty fair.

If you're getting 5 on Large - Rare - Tight, then I'm likely to get a couple more. I'll give it a shot.

I'm playing normal difficulty and I have like 20 or 30 colonies, and I'm having a lot of trouble with culture wars against the other races so I'm building LOTS of bases with only culture modules and defense modules :)
