Colony Ships

Ok, I have read some things about the number of people to put on them ..but I'm still unclear. Is it better to put say 500 on them for a good pop base on new colony or like 1 (like those mini-colony ships) so you don't suck all the life outta your contributing pop planet?

Oh one more thing ..if you put people on a colony ship just to relieve pop pressure (better morale and all that) can you then recolonize the same planet? say after you build some morale-enhancing thingies.

I wonder if your going to loose a planet to culture flip, and you destroyed colony, then immediately restarted with 1 million pop if you would have a better chance of keeping it. :notsure:

It depends of the PQ of the target planet: you may want 500 on a new PQ 20 but not on a new PQ 15.
But you may want to keep enough pop on Earth, just to be sure that you can build lots of thing (and especially Wonder or Trade Goods) on Earth.

Is there some table or other than I can look at that shows what the best pop is for each of the PQ's? like:

PQ 15 - 20
PQ 16 - 30

like that?

I think you're getting way to into the micromanagement if you're making a chart to decide how much population to put on each planet. I just build a whole bunch of colony ships with about 50-100m on them and send them out to find planets. Remember that the higher your population, the lower your moral, and the higher your morale, the faster the population grows. Before you know it it won't matter how many you put there to start out: it'll stabilize where it's going to stabilize.

I typically put 160M on my colony ships for all PQ planets. If they are particularly high, I might put 170, but rarely more.

Well, I'm not particularly interested in a fast game, I'm into maximizing efficiently - so my typical games are gonna be long anyways I figure. I was just auto-launching colony ships before I knew you could adjust them ..it took half my pop from the planet!! ouch.

Anyways, so maybe 150 or so for most PQ's right? K.

Thanks!

There is a nice mod called "mini colony ship". It has a max capacity of 1000 Millions colonist. Not sure if it is usable with the demo.

I've heard that the demo won't support mods - which is cool, I'll have the DE version soon! I've downloaded Ichi Tolots(sp) mods cause everyone seems to rave over them and Stardock said something like "a must have for every GalCiv'er" or somesuch. I'm gonna download the Research, Inc. Pol Party cause that sounds exactly the party I want.

Hey heres a question for ya: Is there a limit to how many modules a SB can have? I mean besides that UP thing limiting them.

Yes, you can build all the levels and then you can't build any more. New mods can add more levels, but they have to be defined.

Is there a limit to the level a mod can create? I don't know that answer to that question.
