More New Animated Ship Graphics Available: Amaymon Fighters

--- New Ships for the weekend ---

I did a request for Amaymon. It is a fighter which can be used early in the game. This MDL is a dark colored set and looks very nice and my first fully animated ship graphic (MDL file). The ship's animation will clearly show which player owns the ship.

The Graphic: There are actually two animated fighters jockying for position in the same space grid square while they wait for movement destination orders; and, thier weapons and engine have a nice animation as well. The pair of fighters will turn normally.

Enjoy

Chippoka, those fighters are truly great! Many thanks, many thanks for doing this for me! :CONGRAT: LOL

I also wish to thank the yet unknown author of the picture on which this model is based. If you recognize your ship, and/or have any objections about the model being used, please contact me or Chippoka.

...I have nothing against new ship models, but would appreciate someone/anyone coming up with new ship graphics and rational names for the current Terran ship models.
...Something starting with starfighters then working up rationally to Battleships.
...Corvettes, Frigates, Destroyers, Light Cruiser, Heavy Cruiser, Battlecruiser, Battleship would make a lot more sense.
...Models that actually reflect the increased size and power would enhance the game I believe. The idea of a Frigate graphic being so much smaller than that of the Corvette I find ridiculous.
...Has anyone tried to recreate the Starfighter carrier of 'Battleship Galactica' or 'Star Wars' fame? THAT would be really neat as the ultimate capital ship.

There's the Star Wars Mod and a StarTrek Mod about. Both have excellent ship models available. There has been a mod that renamed the ships exactly as you described some fan page some time ago. Unfortunately i can't find it anymore. On this page was also an event-file about a fleet of automatic waste-disposal ships. Perhaps the creator of these mods reads this and writes back.

If you do not like the names of the GalCiv original ships, you can edit the ship names either in the *.SHIP Files (GalCiv/Data) with the notepad/editor (don't forget to make a copy of the *.SHIP file before you change anything)or with any version of the GalCiv Writer, the old version (needs no additional programs) is downloadable here: http://www.ctuit.com/bill/galciv.htm#Downloads:

To totally rework all the human ships in GC/AP would be a huge undertaking graphicly.

The names could use some "work," agreed. The small tiny frigate is definately out-of-sync with normal expectations. It looks like a tiny fighter, lol. The Star Hawk also looks like a step backwards from the normal survey ship as well. See my new set of graphics for fighters. Now those are fighter graphics!

With the models that I and others have been making, you can easily fix this. You could even re-arrange existing models. Simply add the MDL file model you desire to the DATA/MODS/GFX folder, and in the data SHIP file for, say the figate, type over the old model name with the new model name you placed in the GFX folder (the MDL name is the model name). Be sure to use some common sense and back-up entire folders before tinkering around (just to be safe from user mistakes - one typo in the SHIP data file can really mess things up).

The Battleship Galactica as a capital ship? Perhaps... I think there are better choices in from Star Wars and other SciFi, but making and using a model of the Battleship Galactica would still be fun to do, even if the shape is pretty plain. I may do that for you and see what I can come up with. It might look better as 3D, non-rotating (too hard to rotate a 3D pic into frames - I don't have the tools to do it). See my Goa'uld Ha'tak class ship (that's a cool capital ship) for what I mean.

For this weekend, I have made a new graphic for the Star Hawk, which uses a ship graphic already in by the frigate technology discovery. This new model will prevent the need to do that.

http://users.rcn.com/aulonacara/Galatic%20Civ/

This graphic is larger and the StarHawk.SHIP is the same as the original except that the file calls for the using of the NewHawk mdl in order to use the new ship graphic in the game.

It is about the same size as the normal survey ship with a similar look.

Unpack the zip file in a temporary folder and follow the readme instructions.

Enjoy.

A note to those using the Jupiter II colony ship SHIP file I provided:

I noticed the AI player decided to use the Jupiter II exclusively instead of the normal colony, even when there is no need to do so. They refuse to use a the normal colony ship to reach more distant locations when there are no short range locations for the Jupiter II colony to go to and colonize. The fix might be to make them both the same cost. The main benefit to the player to using the Jupiter II is simply the small cargo hold, thusly having not to fuss with the overly sensitive slider for filling the cargo hold with excessive numbers of settlers. I had also hoped it could serve as a short range lower cost colony ship, but the AI will not act properly when there are no planets in short range.

However, if you leave the Jupiter II colony ship at the lower cost and short range setting, then some interesting games can be had - you can literally "leap-frog" AI sectors to reach planets the AI can't reach when it refuses to use the normal colony. The AI does eventually reach distant locations via starbases, so it is a bit of a race to leap-frog AI sectors with the regular colony ship in gigantic universe games.

A new stand-alone mod, the Chippoka Fighter; a follow-on design to the Amaymon Fighter. Enjoy.

Down-load into temporary folder, unzip, and then read the readme.txt file for simple installation instructions. Will work for AP or GC installations.

Hmm.... Battleship Galatica capital ship? It might be a interesting ship - I may need to revisit the idea.
