Multimedia Update (1.0.004 -> 1.0.006). 366MB?

Well I fixed my problem of it showing these HUGE sizes for these updates that should be small. I uninstalled GalCiv and reinstalled it. I kept SDC installed though....seems it will show the small updates only if SDC is installed first.

That's what I've heard on past posts, too, Delric.

I think Frogboy himself even mentioned that you should install SDC before you install the GalCiv game.

Unless, of course, you bought the game retail first. In which case, you have to uninstall the game and then try it all again. And sometimes that does not work.

SDC Sucks BIG TIME! I've just stopped recommending GalCiv because of it. When SDC gets reliable, I'll tell my friends its worth the bother.

Nothing wrong with SDC if you know how to use it. That's the most lame reason I've heard for stopping to recommend a brilliant game like this.

For the most part I have not had problems with SDC either. Yes, I did have to download the 80+ MB for the first GalCiv update, and now I had this hiccough. But everything other upgrade has gone smoothly. After this I will have updated all of the components at least once so I am hopeful I won't have any further problems.

33% done, 66% to go... Thank goodness for DSL.

I suspect some of the hicup today is from daylight savings time kicking in and having files that are one hour different.

It's funny, today at work all binary files in our CVS project spontaneously thought they had been updated Yes, DST does strange things to some computer programs. LOL

LordTheRon, I've managed to not have any major SDC issues, other then the find the deeply hidden Gal Civ Serial number box, and the Download Everything to get a baseline issue, until today.

I'm on my third reinstall now. It had trashed out my GalCiv. SDC is not a good product. I wouldn't allow my company to deliver something that troublesome to our customers. I know that many of my friends and relatives who like strategy games could not handle it.

It needs loads of work.

Install SDC first then install the game. That did the trick for me on two different machines.

Stop bitchin and try it out.

I will admit Star Pilot that at times SDC can be counter-intuitive.

However, I have been using Object Desktop with Component Mangaer for awhile, and I upgraded to SDC before I bought GalCiv. Consequently I was already familiar with the program. Following instructions layed out in the e-mail I got from Stardock, I got GalCiv installed quickly and easily with minimum fuss, and it correctly recognised the updates.

I really do appreciate the job that Stardock does, and I know there are things that can be improved with SDC. Fortunately Stardock have a good history of constantly updating there programs to improve there usability. I have no doubt that a year from now SDC will be in quite good shape compared to what it is now (considering it has only been out a few months)

It's a hard thing to say that 'I would never let MY company release such a product in this state' Star Pilot. For me, and no doubt for many people SDC does what it is meant to do. However there will always be someone with a weird computer configuration, or someone who doesn't follow the instructions exactly, or unexpected bugs that crop up from no-where, that will make ur shining slick product into a work in progress.

Nothing Is Ever Finished. Neither is SDC, Or GalCiv.

Dearmad, was it a straightforward, small download, quick update? Or did it make you download the entire 350+ MB again?

Kornalius, bite me. I have done that. I'm on my third pass now. SDC still thinks it needs everything. And is still having issues getting GalCiv installed. I'm running a very standard config, thank you.

NOT EVERYTHING WILL WORK FOR EVERYBODY. BUT SDC HAS A VERY HIGH USER ISSUE PROBLEM.

How many people are complaining about GalCiv not working?

I cannot recommend GalCiv as long as SDC is this counter-intuitive. SDC is their preferred method of distrubition. People are going to want to use it to get the latest updates.

GalCiv is great. But the SDC isn't.

4D, I do not doubt that Star Dock will continue to improve the SDC. It's not there yet though.

And we'd never release the SDC at NASA for the general NASA community. It's too much for untrained users to handle. That's the simple truth. Much of the trouble people have with the SDC is simply items buried too deep. Look through the board. Secondmost problem? So far, it seems to be what I've hit... Wanting the full thing, despite the user following directions (or the user thinks he/she followed directions).

There's plenty of others. My SDC did something that corrupted GalCiv. Whoopsie!

I'm just a stupid user. Not a complete idiot.

I don't expect perfection. But I don't want to get all those calls from my family and friends about why they couldn't get GalCiv to update, or why it's fried out. And if I recommended GalCiv to them, that is exactly what would happen with SDC, currently. I look forward to the day that changes.

To ALL: ********** Frogboy ********** says that there are **** NO **** multimedia updates in the current update. It is a time change issue that has caused the multimedia to be changed. No worries as no real update.
