Mods and the Metaverse

This may have been asked already...

But if GalCiv is modded heavily, I.E. the Advanced Terraforming Mod and some other funky ones that will change gameplay, then are we still able to submit our games to the metaverse? because we don't know the mechanics behind the scoring, wouldn't some of these Mods affect the score? (for better or worse)

I don't know if there is any policy right now, but I would suspect(hope) at some point that only mods in the library(and hence approved by Stardock) will be allowed. Either that or no mods would be my preference... on the other hand I think the AI's have access to all the features you do in a true mod(ie. not a 50000+ BC trainer) It's a good question! ;)

Is the advanced terraforming mod really approved? Wouldn't that boost scores a fair bit by having so many high+++ class planets?

On second thought I think you're right Priest... to keep the scoring consistant they probably should allow only scores with no mods... the way the Stardock guys are though it may very well be that if a mod is 'good' enough and doesn't throw the game out of balance it may be included as part of a future 'official' update.

Yeah, that would be how I hope they handle it. I hope the developers add more to the game on a regular basis, and some of the ideas in the AT mod would be great. I'm not against mods at all, and I'll probably download a lot of them as time goes on, I just don't see how they will be able to be considered as balanced as the stock game...espically because the developers are adding to the stock game anyway.

Depends how they setup the modding folders and structure. It wouldn't be too hard to tell if you were running a mod or not. Then it could be counted towards the metaverse... or not. Also, they could do a system where the score is added or subtracted depending on the mod and what it offers. :)

It would be interesting in the future if any really involved MOD's appear (I.E. Conversion of lots of core rules/values and gameplay) and become popular, to have seperate areas of the metaverse for those MOD's...

I know this isn't practical at present, but imagine the replayability of a modded GalCiv with popular branchings of MOD's followed by different fanbases.... (This is of course after GalCiv goes Platinum and becomes the top-selling PC game of the Century) ;)
