Best planet quality (non-modified) you've seen?

Granted, I've only played a handful of games thus far, and mostly on small/tiny galaxies, but my jaw just about hit the floor when I stumbled across a 26 quality one... and only one sector away from my home. I've seen 22s here and there and once saw a 24, but 26 was just off the scale of ones that I'd seen.

What have you stumbled across?

hi Biffman
those 26's are very rare and when they do show up they are a godsend. Try to locate as much capitals there as you can. that planet will usually become the most powerful planet you will have. Also freighters from there can have increased value especially if you establish with the biggest planets the other races have

Yup... 26 is as high as they come me think... and then you upp them with some soil enhancement and habitat improvment and few others and you got yourself a very nice planet :)

There is an event that I have seen once so far that chooses a random alien planet and adds 12 to each uncolonised planet within 2 sectors. This occured near the beginning of a game with me and there was a planet with class 38 or something. Because I was close to the alien I found it before they did and QUICKLY colonised it... to my astonishment I recehived the space slugs planet event increasing the planet even more. By the time I had finished with soil enhancement, habita improvement, terraforming and The Terraformer it had reached a planet class of 52... WOW... these conditions I would guess are VERY rare, but it just shows you what might be possible.

Does a series of lucky events like that ever give you so much of an enormous advantage that you may as well just "automatically win"?

No... becasue the AI can get them as well... in fact usually they get better things then you do as far as I have seen, but it is probably pretty even.

A class 52 planet is great... but many things can happen to it... and I don't think I will ever see one again...

26 is the highest a planets base class can start at, but there is one way for a planet's base class to be permanently changed to 35.

(And for reference, that 35, fully terraformed (+145%, I think), would be around class 83. That should be the absolute maximum class a planet can reach, not accounting for future mods. A 26 would hit 63, and a 20 would go up to 48.)

Since you pointed out class 83 would pretty much be the celing for planets, I was just wondering what kind of max population/production/research/etc. a planet that amazing would have. That would a nice Ace to have in your hand, heh.

I have no clue, but if I pulled out the modded files I used when poking at things during beta2, I could probably put together a table going as high as class 190-something.

If I had to guess, that class 83 is probably going to have some serious problems that will make maxing the population nearly impossible anyway. The class 120 Earth I had during beta 3, when morale resources also improved planet quality, was perpetually plagued with morale problems once the population got up near 100B.
