Can someone please tell me a bit abou tthis game and if it might be worth getting along wiht GalCiv?

On the box it has a lot of good ratings listed about it, but I never see it talked about nor do i know much about it.

I have it. I'd pass if I were you. GalCiv is going to be much better. SEIV is much better. MoO2 is much better. Dont bother with MoO3, though...terrible game.

if you could get it cheap off ebay then it would be worth it. it depends on what kind of game you like. it has a very different style to it. rather that the typical 4x where you have a hundred planets to micromanage and fleets with hundreds of ships you usually have five main planets and a fleet of ten ships.

the interface is incrediblie confusing at first but you catch on the more you play. it has a real star trek epic feeling to it because what you focus on mostly is the ships themselves, hence the title "starships" unlimited. theres a demo and the publisher is www.matrixgames.com its an ok game and the designer is promising to make constant addons and fixes for um well probably forever. he made the first version which was shareware by himself than he made the commercial version with two other people one who did art and another guy who did music than they made that. its pretty fun but try the demo first to see if you like it.

I think it's very good, and, as Patrick noted, quite different from all the other space 4x games. Most everything in the other games is present in SUDG, but the focus is on a MUCH lower level. Personally, I think this difference alone makes it worth it. You get a completely different feel while than you get from the others. Losing one ship in most games is nothing--losing a ship in SUDG is a serious event, 'cause you'll never have more than a handful. So, you get attached to the ones you have.

Yeah, the interface is confusing--altho I've seen MUCH worse--and the art is only slightly above shareware level, but it plays nicely, and that's what counts to me.

Try the demo to get an idea. Unfortunately, it only runs 100 turns, which is not enough to get to the real fun--I never even met another race in the demo--but it'll give you some idea of what it's like.

I bought SUDG to help with the wait for GalCiv and I'm having a blast. If your looking for a 4X lite game with focus on research, ship building and ship combat, it's a great game. If you're looking for the typical 4X, this aint it. There is a demo you can try and I think it's fairly small. My biggest complaint is that the diplomacy is very dry. I almost wish I could turn it off and just do a free for all.

Well, it's different. Nothing for 4x TB lovers, IMO. But judge yourselves and dl the demo at www.apezone.com

It's not turn based, but, even though I hate real-time games I like SUDG. It runs continuously, but, anytime something happens which requires your attention, it auto-pauses and tells you what's up. So, even tho it's continous-time, there's none of the frenetic, mouse-twitching type action of the typical real-time game. You can still take your time when you have decisions to make.
