Silly Trade Bar Question

I don't get it at all. What does the new slider do? To my untrained eye it only increases by odd increments, sometimes 75s and sometimes 10s and it still resets if your trade offer is rejected? I still feel inclined to type stuff in and yet so many people love it. What am I missing?

Thanks! This is a great feature! The mousewheel works very well with this!

However, perhaps a true slider (instead of arrows?) I guess they did that to avoid the other probem of not getting precise enough?
