Please explain how moral is influenced...

I have a game where I was doing OK in, I was #1 in tech, econ, military and research. My planets were all pretty well populated with a variety of enhancements (soil, habitat, embassy, medical), I had the propoganda sliders for each planet set to 100, I was not in a war and my taxes were set to 25% (pretty low!).

After a while the moral on each planet started dropping. One turn they were around 60 (average) the next turn, 55, the next turn 42, and the next turn we had an election where I lost. So please tell me what affected the moral on those planets so negatively. Was it solely another races' destabilization attempts?

And if you can, tell me (other than winning an election, or them defecting) why I would want a high moral on each planet.

Thanks.

Sounds like someone was destabilizing you.

High morale will let you tax higher (since low moral is what limits your tax rate). It also increases your population growth.

I would say that destabilization does seem a bit too powerful. In larger games especially, it costs the destabilser far less than the destabilsed. At least, thats what it seems like.
