LDC Monitor problems

I just got a new 20" LCD, Im in love with it but Ive been having alot of problems. I cant get GalCiv or Altarian Prophecy to run on it at all. It loads up fine, but the game is wrapped around the monitor for lack of a better way to describe it. (not just gal civ either, any game that doesnt support 1600x1200) Ive tried lowering the resolution, which looks like crap, but that doesnt work either, it still is wrapped around. Any ideas on a way to fix this ?

Upadate Drivers for monitor and vid card.

they are already up to date. Im bieng told by a friend that since the native resolution of the monitor is 1600x1200 that unless I can get a game to run at that resolution it will always do this. Does anyone know how to change the resolution in GalCiv?

Could it be the bit size. try only 16 and see.

As far as where the resolution is. It seems be set to some sort of default and cant find out where it is so am guessing it is in the exe.

I tested out my Dads new monitor and it was a 1600 X 1024 and it came through, just streched to the sides.

I tried the 16 bit, no change =/ Im going to be depressed if I can no longer play Gal Civ at all just cause of my new monitor =(

Do you use an analog cable or a digital?

This sound like a synchronization problem with an analog connection.

You should really use a DVI cable when your computer offers a digital output (A 20" LCD should have it anyway, i.e. there are two different connectore. Look up your manual in case of doubt. The connectors should have a description there). When you have connectors on both computer and monitor but no cable you should really buy a DVI to DVI cable. It costs about 5-15$ and it's really worth it.

This would not only omit these kind of problems but give you a sharpener picture as well. (The computer produces a digital signal. This is converted to an analog signal and send to the monitor. The monitor converts it back to a digital signal an shows it on the screen. These unnecessary conversions do decrease the signal significantly and produce problems with the synchronization.)

When your computer does not offer an DVI output, check the monitor manual for synchronization.

My monitor offers both DVI and analogue, and I have a geforce 6800 which includes both hookups as well so I used the DVI. I have been doing some research and apparently 1024X768 is the ONLY resolution for Gal Civ. My monitor and video card both support that resolution, but when I set the resolution to that, it does the same thing with my desktop that it does with Gal Civ. Ive heard there is a way to run galciv in a window but I cant find out how to try that. Maybe I just missed it in the forums, im not sure.

For the windowed version you need to do two things.

First your must set your color depth (in the windows settings for your desktop it is named color quality) of your screen to 16 bit.

Then create a shortcut for your galciv.exe and add a w after galciv.exe, i.e. it should look like
"C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming.net\AltarianProphecy\GalCiv.exe" w
