Terror star strat - Spoiler ....weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Hello folks, (please forgive me for those who already knew =P)

This is what I like to call the Terror star drop. Take 13-14 contructors (by then you should have a slew of tech), drop them by a near by enemy planet that you aren't at war with, build your terror star with all the terror upgrades, cultural upgrades and defense upgrades. Then watch the planet turn to you side in just a few turns! (best to do on a alot of planets in the same sector, without any cultural monuments) Beats the hell out of trying to invade the frikin thing :D . That negates the Terror star movement handicap at the very least. Also, you can do it with starbases too if you just can't wait to spread the joys of your culture. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I second this strategy. I just finished a game on a huge map, where I built a very fancy Terror star, with all the cultural trimmings in my home system, and sent it towards an enemy system about 2/3 of the way across them map. It got maybe 1/2 way there, and I got bored, and sent out a fleet of constructors. The constructors had reached the enemy system, built a starbase, and converted all the planets before the Terror Star arrived :D

Yea the Party Palace Terror Star is pretty easy to do in the late game if you have the tech ;)

Sadly im finding on the harder AI levels its not as easy

The AIs know about this one. Just wait until they do it to you.

Not saying you cant, was just pointing out the AI often as not will notice and thus not as easy as the normal level.

I've had the AI notice at lower levels - so there's always a chance it will, it's just increased as it gets smarter.

Admittedly, it took about seven or eight turns of the terror star being in his sector before the Drengin said "hey, get that thing out of my space!" and then it wasn't his space anymore.

I just had the Drengin demand "Starbase 1288" as it was "obviously intended to make their planets defect". They were right LOL but I rejected their demands. They went to war over it but it didn't stop their planets defecting. Game over for them pretty soon after.

Makes me think that maybe there should be a bonus to resisting cultural take-over from people you are at war with... basically nobody will buy Altair-Cola while they are blowing up your trade ships and dropping billions of troops on your planets.

I like the Penny Arcade quote:

"The first game I played, I won not through conflict, or technological superiority, or political maneuvers - though all of those are valid victory conditions. There is a way to win by simply exerting and extolling your culture, which was too delicious not to try for. Starbases can be built anywhere, and exert influence - they can be made to exert even more with a variety of modules you can add. Of course, if they wouldn't succumb to the allure of the Space Waterpark or Space Restaurant Chain (I'm not kidding, those are real examples), my armada - also known as the Sales Force - would certainly be happy to show them merchandise from our military catalog. I was briefly aware that, on the world of Artrus I, children playing with tiny replicas of our gleaming fleets would look up - into the purple sky of their world - to see those selfsame craft, and unaware of their terrible purpose there, feel exhilarated."

I don't care what kind of sales staff you have if you don't sell Altair-Cola, then you might as well be selling rotten bull scotums. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

I heard that Altair-Cola will broadcast your thoughts to government databases.

Why do you think they're always so jolly?

Of all the databases I've met throught my life, I've never known one to be 'jolly'. Being a fatass doesn't make one Santa Claus. Being greasy doesn't make one a piece of white trash. Having a mullet doesn't make one 'classy'.

I'm going to have to look into your Altair-cola accusation. I suspect you have an alterior motive..

I'M GOING TO KEEP AN EYE ON YOU (o) >:( :notsure: >:( >:( >:(

Databases are never jolly. They're sinister, cold anti-intellects that know everything about you.

The Altairians are jolly, because if they *weren't* the databases would *know* and then the thought police come to *make* them jolly.

Beware Altairian Cola.
