Just bought game and it freezes before first turn...please help!

I just got this game and it looks awesome I was a huge MoM fan back in the day. Heres my problem though:

I just got a new computer:
AMD 939 Dual Core 4200 w/ 6600 GT video card
I am using Windows XP Home Edition

Now the problem: I can creat a new game and setup the options, but after I start the game (before I even end one turn) the game freezes. I have to ctrl+alt+delete to shut down the game. It happens everytime I play. I have gone on to Stardock and got the latest update (automatic version). I believe this is ver. 1.22. How do I fix this problem?? Please help, I really want to play this game. Thanks!

I guess people don't post here that often. Oh well. I have my resolution in XP set really high, so I think I will drop it down some to see if that helps with the freezing problem. Hopefully that will work, cuz I really want to get into this game.

Sorry, no idea. Have you tried (if you have enough broadband) to uninstall the game and make a full download from Stardock Central?

Hm. Not sure if you got it fixed, but just noting that I got GC recently and my version is 1.4, not 1.22. I also have Windows XP home version and I haven't had any problems.

That is strange. Stardock Central show that the latest versions are :
Galactic Civilisation : 1.22
Altarian Prophecy : 1.52

And if I remember well, when AP was in open beta, the number was 1.49

1.04 is a very old version. Lots of things have changed since. You should update to the latest version with Stardock Central.

Heh. I did, and wow, what a difference. And let me take this moment to congratulate the creaters of the Omega Pack. Well done.

Having the same problem myself. My guess is that GalCiv doesn't like dual CPUs.

kinda sucks cause its a really good game and now i can't play it since i built my new pc.

Did you go through the soundcard problem thread? Most problems like that were driver related.

When it does not help, get SmartException (Free Stuff area in the Stardock Central) and start it ahead. When GC creashes, send the log or SmartException to Stardock. They have a support email.

Another idea. As far I know you can limit a program to only one CPU core. I don't remember how to do that, but maybe you can figure out that by yourself or anybody here can help you.

GalCiv works fine on dual CPUs. I'm not sur ewhat the issue is.  What's your debug.err say (it's in your GalCiv directory).
