Too many colony ships....

Ever since upgrading to the version with autolaunch, I have had a problem where once the first colony ship has been built, a colony ship will be built (and launched) from that planet every turn from that point on. This also happens with planets building constructors. The only way to build ships at the normal rate is to disable autolaunch. Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a fix for this? I am currently running version 1.02.40.

No, but I wish I was... essentially free Constructors? Do you have any idea how USEFUL that would be??

I haven't seen this but I'll check on it.

Damnit, you had to post a potential exploit at a time when Frogboy is around and reading the boards, didn't you? Now he'll have it fixed in an hour and I'll never get to use it. ;)

I've got the same problem (1.02.41), and the AI can do it too. The Arcaens took a few systems from me, and when I went to retrieve them, one of them had a full orbit of constructors, WITH 260+ CONSTRUCTORS SITTING OUTSIDE THE SYSTEM. I started to take them out, but with that many ships on screen each turn took forever (game almost seemed to lock up it slowed down so much) and they put new ones out almost as fast as I could destroy them. (Another nearby system of theirs had 100+ constructors sitting outside the system.) My distant and only remaining system was churning out constructors every turn as well, and I had military spending set to 0. I couldn't change the ship that was being built either manually or with the governor. I somehow was able to pick "Nothing" for my military queue (wish I could remember how), but then I couldn't build ANY military in that system from that point on. And, since that was my ONLY system, the game was pretty much ruined. :(

Of course, all this was happening at the same time that I had taxes set to 100% with govt. spending set to 100% and an approval rate of 100%. I somehow doubt it's supposed to work this way. :(

I've also noticed this problem with 1.02.41. In one game, the minor race one sector away built 10! colony ships by turn fifteen or so. It makes it hard to compete when the AI is cranking out hoardes of colony ships and constructors.

I've also seen this with version 1.02.40. Just upgraded to 1.02.41 - will check and repost.

Have others seen this, or is it limited to a few of us? If so, what's so special about us? It sure seems fairly major to me, and that others would have piped in.

Well, I figured out why my queue got stuck on nothing, and perhaps why all the launch queues are getting stuck on a particular ship. It seems to happen when the orbit's full...? As soon as I took all the ships out of orbit of my system, I could build ships again, seemingly normally.

Well, for the record, I experienced the duplicate colony ship as well. Early in the game, auto-launch on, orbit empty, two colony ships for the price of one. IT'S SALE DAY ON COLONY SHIPS!! :d

Is there a workaround to disable the colony ship and constructor ship bug from autolaunch (to stop my enemies as well as myself from using it?) I have off this weekend starting now and am really looking forward to playing this weekend, but don't want to do so without a workaround or patch for this bug.

The only workaround I know of is to not use auto-launch. Not sure as to whether the AI uses it, or if it's just a convenience for human players.

Based on the fact that people have reported the AI having hundreds of constructors in a sector, I believe the AI does use Autolaunch and unfortunately it is making the game nearly unplayable until it is fixed.

It seems that maybe AI only uses (and exploits a bug in) autolaunch when it takes over your system which already had autolaunch enabled.

Just a guess, but this problem has killed two of my games. I guess I shouldn't let them take my systems. ;)

If this is the case, that is very good to know :D I haven't seen it yet, but I had been holding off playing for the last day because I had heard of this bug. I knew my enemies had a lot of colony ships earlier but that could be just from leasing quickly. Now I can resume playing and just make sure I keep autolaunch off until the bug is fixed :)

So that is why I got those extra colony ship. I can tell you the circumstances for it.

It did not occur before my current game and it is only because of threads like this that I became aware of the oddity. In my current game, I picked PQ (for 9pts) and Morale and Earth was rated a 19 (not counting the 2pts added to PQ).

Other than this, I am playing in my usual Gigantic galaxy with a tight configuration and normal intelligence. Yes, I am using auto launch to quickly get those ship out. No, my military que is not full. Thank to starting with a 100% morale, I got my tax rate to 70% and it did lower morale to 80 or 90.

I'll have fun with this for a time, but my next game won't be using PQ.
