OT: Has anyone ever played Pax Imperia: Eminent Domain?

I'm talking about the one that was released for PC in 1997. I just stumbled across it a few minutes ago and it seems very much like GalCiv/Moo2 with a few more tweaks/options and slightly better gfx. I'm just wondering if anyone has played this game before and how they would rate it. Maybe you could compare it to the 2 aforementioned games if you have the time.

I loved the game and wore it out. It's designed totally differently than this game though - it's real time, but still plays nicely like a 4x. But don't waste your time on it; hell, GalCiv should satisfy your gaming needs far, far better than Pax. I don't remember the graphics being any better and the gameplay takes a little less strategy and more of the Warcraft-ish style of "crank-em-out-as-fast-as=you-can." Maybe just a personal preference, but hope this helps.

It was good because it was 3 dimensional in the system display. None of these new games operate in 3-d which really sucks, cause space is 3-d, wholw different stategic concept. With computing power as it is tody it couldn't be that hard to have a 3-d game.
They handled the "how do you see where you are" question by using a flat grid along the x-y axis and a line either up or down along the z axis. IMO this is really missing in the latest space 4x games.

I like the original Pax Imperia on the Mac (Immenient Domains is a sequal). Didnt like Immenient domains so much.

3d doesn't add anything.

I enjoyed the battles, they were more fun to watch and see your techs in action than most 4X games now. The fighters where real fun to see taking on big ships. I just could not find any one to play back then... (:(
