Galciv Doesnt seem to like to share sound with winamp on 98se

Cannot play galciv and winamp in the background at the same time. sounds are choppy, sounds like galciv whoring the sound buffer or something and not letting winamp use it properly? Works fine in win2k, not win98. ALso on 98se box , turns take forever. Is there something in the game that should be screwing up in 98se and not 2k?? very frustrating >:(

Are you using winamp for mp3s? There's an integrated mp3 player in galciv, on the main options screen. You have to toggle the little option for 'user defined playlist' (it's not that easy to spot if you don't know it's there).

I've got a 98se system; for me the turns go by plenty quick, but I've also got a fast system. What are your specs?

Winamp works okay for me in the background of GalCiv... Unlike the inbuilt mp3 player.

Got the latest video/sound drivers for your machine? :)

What's your soundcard? SB Lives have been causing a lot of problems...

I've been using SB Live in three seperate systems I've had for about four years now, and apart from the odd driver update issue, I've never had a *single* problem.

akaste: mine worked fine for me as well until last year (when I replaced it with an Audigy), but I was simply referring to the fact that there have been a few bug reports around here traced to problems with SB Lives.

its a duron 800, it runs fine 90% of the time, just now and again a turn with take FOREVER. The sound with winamp does like this: whenever galciv goes to play a sound it plays more of the music. So if you're clicking lots of things it sounds like the music is playing, but if you stop it stops. click somehting that minght make a *bling* or whatevre menu sound effect, and another half second of sound plays. Used to work fine with like 1.01 somehting, but with latest patch just Cannot use winamp with it :( So i figured it seemed like winamp's filling the sound buffer but its not getting played till galciv says play something. btw it plays multiple sounds fine with both cs + winamp or quake + winamp. btw sound card is, erm, shit some no name i think, like a als4000 chip or seomthing iirc. winamp version 1.92 if anyone cares. any more info i can go boot the thing and find out exactly.
